The Problem

Clearing junk in Mission Viejo takes more than a plan

You call the trash hauler, look up the bulky item rules, request a couple of hauler quotes, and wait on callbacks that never come. Weeks go by, and the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

The trash hauler's bulky item service helps, but it runs on its own schedule. You have to request it ahead of time, the number of items is limited, and some things aren't accepted. You still have to drag everything to the curb yourself.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to see the load in person before they quote, then charge by how much of the truck it fills. You often don't know your final price until the job is done, and you've already lost an afternoon waiting for them.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers look for items they can resell, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken appliances usually get turned away. Even when something qualifies, you still have to load it, drive it there, and find a place for whatever they refuse.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A dumpster makes sense for a full remodel, not a weekend garage cleanout. It has to be scheduled, it can take up your driveway for days, and your HOA may have rules about containers. You also still have to fill it yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

If the old patio set is already sitting on your driveway, curbside keeps things quick. For a refrigerator in a two-story townhome or a garage packed to the rafters, full-service lets your Loaders carry everything out from where it sits, which also helps if your HOA limits how long items can stay in view.

Local Disposal Rules

The Mission Viejo disposal rules most residents don't know

Dumping hazardous products in a trash cart is illegal, and a contaminated organics cart earns a door tag. These are the rules that apply in Mission Viejo and Orange County.

Rule 01

Treated fence and deck wood has one county landfill option

Orange County accepts treated wood waste at Prima Deshecha Landfill in San Juan Capistrano but not at Olinda Alpha in Brea, and Frank R. Bowerman takes it only from commercial customers. That leaves residents one county landfill for old treated fencing or decking.

Rule 02

Yard trimmings and food scraps share the green-lid cart

Under SB 1383, Mission Viejo households must sort food waste and yard waste into the green-lid organics cart. Material in the wrong cart counts as contamination and triggers a door hang tag. The state law also carries penalties enforced through a city ordinance.

Rule 03

Three free curbside bulky pickups a year, five items each

Waste Management collects furniture, appliances, and electronic equipment free on your regular trash day, up to five large items three times per year. Schedule 48 hours ahead of trash day. Car bodies and construction and demolition waste are excluded.

Rule 04

Broken asphalt is fee-exempt late in the week

Prima Deshecha Landfill accepts clean, broken asphalt with no rebar and no petromat fee-free on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The same load brought Monday through Wednesday pays regular landfill fees, so timing a driveway tear-out matters.

Rule 05

Leftover pool chemicals and paint cannot go in the trash cart

The city states it is illegal to dump hazardous waste in a trash container. Free drive-through City Hall collections with Waste Management accept pool chemicals, garden chemicals, and paint products, capped at 125 pounds or 15 gallons per vehicle, with no container over 5 gallons.

Rule 06

Covered remodel projects must recycle 75 percent of debris

Under Ordinance 04-225, covered projects in Mission Viejo must keep 75% of construction and demolition waste out of landfills. Projects using Waste Management bins only get their diversion performance deposit back with receipts or weight tags stating the material was considered C&D.

Only through the city's bulky item collection program with its hauler, Waste Management. Items put out without a scheduled pickup can be treated as illegal dumping. Call Waste Management or check the city's Public Works page for scheduling and item limits.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Mission Viejo starts at $75 for a single item, and curbside pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before booking.

Same-day pickup is often available, depending on Loader schedules in your area. Enter your address when booking to see live openings. For curbside pickups you don't need to be home. For in-home pickups, someone should be there or leave access instructions.

Household hazardous waste is the big exception. Paint, pool chemicals, pesticides, motor oil, antifreeze, cleaners, and batteries don't belong in bulky pickup or the trash. Mission Viejo holds two collection events a year, and Orange County runs household hazardous waste centers.

Loaders aim to donate usable items to local charities and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance. Items that can't be donated or recycled go to licensed disposal sites. Outcomes vary by item condition, so nothing is guaranteed.

Choose your items online, get a price, and pick a pickup window. Your Loader calls ahead before arriving, then removes the items from inside or the curb. The total is confirmed before you book, so there's no estimate surprise on pickup day.

The main differences are pricing model and booking flow. Many traditional haulers price by truckload and may confirm the cost on site. LoadUp prices per item online upfront. For a large cleanout, a truckload hauler may suit you better, so compare quotes.
