Bulky items often require disassembly before they can be loaded into a junk removal or garbage truck. Some examples of bulky trash include furniture, appliances, mattresses, exercise equipment, televisions and other large household items that are too large to go out with the trash.

Although you may be able to haul items like mattresses and furniture to the curb, your local bulk trash collection service will usually pass over them until your neighborhood’s set bulky item pickup day or require you to schedule a special pickup. When this happens, you will have to haul the items back into your home or garage. FYI: If you don’t haul your large items back from the curb, you could receive a fine! Plus, mattresses, appliances and furniture that sit at the curb for days are an eyesore that your neighbors probably won’t appreciate.

In some cases, you may need to remove doors or certain parts of your bulky items before you take them to the curb in order for the services to be able pick up large items.

Keep in mind that bulky items picked up by your local trash service will be taken to a landfill, which is not the best option for many large or oversized items. The need to disassemble a large item before a pickup depends on the item type. Large, heavy or oversized items generally must be disassembled in order to be removed by our Loaders. You can either disassemble the item(s) yourself before your scheduled junk removal service, or we can do it for you.

In most cases, disassembly service costs extra and varies by item. However, there are some items, including commercial treadmills, play sets and more, that include disassembly service for no extra charge when you schedule to have them removed.
