The city's bulk pickup does not take appliances that contain CFCs or Freon. Federal rules require the refrigerant to be recovered before a fridge, freezer or window AC unit is scrapped, so these items have to be disposed of another way.
Bulk items cannot be placed on top of water meters, near overhead power lines, or anywhere they block sidewalks, streets, mailboxes or utility access. The city also requires items to be stacked neatly and safely so collection crews can reach them.
Televisions and other large electronics are excluded from the city's bulk program. Under Texas law, companies that make computers and televisions sold in the state must offer consumers a recycling program for their own brand. That gives you another option when curbside pickup is not available.
