Tires are on Washington's list of items the curbside garbage service will not accept. Illinois law also keeps whole used tires out of landfills because of mosquito and fire concerns, so tires need their own recycling outlet.
Illinois has banned landscape waste from landfills since 1990, so branches cannot go out with the trash. Washington's optional subscription runs Fridays from April through November. Bundles must be under four feet and tied with non-metallic cord like twine. Non-subscribers can pay per bag at AREA-Morton.
During a big cleanout, Washington lets you set private containers and garbage bags out next to the cart. Each one must be 36 gallons or smaller and weigh under 50 pounds. Everything must be at the curb before 6:00 a.m. on collection day.
