Junk has a way of piling up until it's all you see. Skip the dump runs and book a quick LoadUp pickup in Smithsburg, with your real quote shown before you commit.
You call the town office, then find out the county handles part of it. You request a few hauler quotes and hear back from one. Weeks go by, and the junk is still sitting in the garage.
Free municipal pickup schedules usually have limits on item types and quantities, and you often have to request a pickup ahead of time. Appliances, construction debris, and anything that isn't already at the curb may not qualify, so a whole basement cleanout rarely fits.
Many haulers have to see the job in person before giving you a price, and then they quote by fractions of a truckload. That makes the final bill hard to predict, and you could end up waiting days for someone to come out just to give you a number.
Donation centers need items they can actually resell. That means a stained couch, a scratched dresser, or a box of mismatched odds and ends often gets turned away. Pickup slots can be limited too, so whatever they won't take is still your problem.
A dumpster takes up your driveway for days and may need a permit if it sits on the street. You also have to schedule both the drop-off and the haul-away, and you still have to lift everything over the side yourself, even if it's only one room's worth of junk.

If the old grill or bagged brush is already waiting at the end of your driveway, curbside pickup is a simple choice. For a dresser in an upstairs bedroom or a chest freezer in a back shed off a long rural lane, choose full-service and your Loaders carry it out for you.

Older homes hold on to everything, and so do barns, basements, and detached garages. Out here, clearing them usually means borrowing a truck, giving up a Saturday, and making more than one trip down county roads. Your Loaders would rather do the lifting, and they like showing up for neighbors who deserve their weekend back.
Bulky items in a small town like Smithsburg need a sensible next stop, and the right one depends on condition. Your Loader sorts what leaves your property toward donation, recycling, or disposal when local options allow.
Furniture, appliances, and household goods in good, clean condition may be donated when local options allow. Your Loader can set aside usable pieces, and you should ask about any paperwork directly.
Items that are worn or damaged but not fit for donation may be recycled where available, such as metal frames or appliance parts. Your Loader separates them when possible, though recycling is never guaranteed.
Heavily damaged, soiled, or contaminated bulky items, like a collapsed sofa or ruined mattress, are disposed of responsibly. Your Loader handles the lifting and loading, and restricted items such as hazardous materials may be excluded.
Furniture, appliances, or building materials set out with the Tuesday trash stay at the curb. These are the disposal rules that apply in Smithsburg and across Washington County.
After an April 2025 storm, Washington County placed free dumpsters for residents at sites including the Smithsburg (Greensburg) Convenience Center. They took yard waste and construction debris from storm damage to homes. Proof of residency may be required, since county facilities serve county residents.
Washington County runs a mattress and box spring recycling program at the Forty West Landfill. There is a per-piece fee and no permit is required. Only clean items are accepted, so a stained or water-soaked mattress from a basement will not qualify.
Smithsburg's weekly household collection takes general household rubbish only, and ashes are named on the list of items it leaves behind. Homes that burn wood through Western Maryland winters need a separate disposal plan for ash instead of adding it to the weekly can.
Washington County has run a permanent residential electronics drop-off at the Forty West Landfill since 2007, first set up with a state environmental grant. Residents cross the scales before unloading. A minimum fee applies, and it goes up for loads over 360 pounds.
Town yard waste collection runs on the third Wednesday from April through December only, so limbs brought down by winter weather wait until spring. Put yard waste in biodegradable paper bags, cardboard boxes, or loose in cans. Plastic bags of any kind are refused.
Smithsburg's weekly trash collection does not take appliances. Washington County accepts appliances that contain Freon at the Forty West Landfill for a charge, and the landfill recycled 496 tons of white goods in 2019 alone.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Smithsburg starts at $85, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before booking.
Sometimes. Availability depends on Loader schedules and demand in the Hagerstown area, so same-day slots are not guaranteed. Enter your address when booking to see the open times for your location. Next-day and later dates are usually easier to get.
For curbside or driveway pickups, no. Leave the items out and add access notes at booking. For items inside your home, someone should be there, or you can leave entry instructions. Your Loader contacts you before arriving.
Hazardous materials like paint, solvents, pesticides, and fuel usually need special handling and are not accepted as ordinary junk. Check Washington County Solid Waste for hazardous waste and landfill rules. Large or heavy items may also need extra planning.
Loaders try to donate usable items and recycle materials whenever options allow, and the rest goes to an appropriate disposal facility. Outcomes depend on what local charities and recyclers will accept at the time, so donation or recycling cannot be guaranteed.
You book online, choose your items and a time window, and see your total before confirming. On pickup day your Loader arrives, confirms the items, then carries them out and loads them. You do not have to move anything yourself.
The main differences are pricing model and booking flow. Many traditional haulers price by truckload and may confirm the price on site. LoadUp prices by item online and confirms your total before booking. For larger cleanouts, a truckload hauler can be a better fit.
