The Problem

Cascade has options for junk, just not easy ones

You search county pages, call a hauler or two, and wait on callbacks that never come. One quote needs a site visit next week. Meanwhile the junk sits in the garage, another month gone.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Cascade has no town government, so there is no city bulk pickup to call. Washington County relies mostly on drop-off sites instead. That means you load the truck, drive down off the mountain, and unload it yourself. If you don't have a truck, you don't have an easy answer.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to drive out for an in-person estimate first, and out here that visit can take days to schedule. Then the quote depends on how much of the truck you fill, so you rarely know the real number until the job is done.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers have to be choosy, and they should be. Stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken appliances usually get turned away, and the nearest drop-off may be a town or two over. You still need a plan for whatever they won't accept.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off for one cleared-out bedroom is a lot of steel. You book delivery and pickup windows, check placement rules, and hope the truck can handle a sloped gravel drive without rutting the lawn. Then you still do all the lifting.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Cascade and the Washington County side of South Mountain

Hauling an old sofa down winding, hilly back roads in a pickup you don't own, all the way to a county disposal site, is a rough way to spend a Saturday. Your Loader handles the lifting, carrying, and loading from the garage, shed, or barn, and genuinely enjoys showing up for neighbors out here.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Big, awkward items are hard to move off a wooded or sloped Cascade lot, so where they end up matters. Your Loader sorts each pickup by condition, aiming for donation or recycling when possible before disposal.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

Furniture and household goods in good, clean condition may be donated when possible and when local options allow. Your Loader carries them out, though nearby donation sites can be limited in a rural area.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Visible Wear

Recycling

Items that are worn or damaged but still have usable materials, like scrap metal or wood, may be recycled where available. Your Loader handles the lifting and loading, and options can be farther afield.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Heavily damaged or contaminated bulky items, like soaked mattresses or broken furniture, are hauled away by your Loader for responsible disposal, saving you a long drive from Cascade to a Washington County drop-off site.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Cascade disposal rules most residents don't know

Bring the wrong load to a county facility and it gets refused, so here is how disposal actually works for Cascade households in Washington County.

Rule 01

Storm debris and yard waste follow their own permit rules

Yard debris needs a separate Yard Debris permit at county facilities. After an April 2025 storm, Washington County opened temporary dumpsters for county residents only, taking storm-related yard waste and construction debris for a limited window capped by funding. Proof of residency may be required.

Rule 02

Sofas and mattresses never qualify for the household trash permit

Washington County's residential permit covers only everyday bagged trash from kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living rooms. Furniture, bedding, and large bulky items are refused at every convenience center. They must cross the scales at Forty West Landfill before 3 p.m. and be paid for there.

Rule 03

Debris hauled from across the Pennsylvania line is rejected

Washington County checks loads suspected of carrying waste generated outside the county. Loads found to be from elsewhere are rejected, and consequences can include a reloading fee, revoked landfill privileges, and fines. County recycling sites also serve Washington County residents only, with no business materials.

Rule 04

Liquid paint and other fluids are refused at Forty West Landfill

Forty West Landfill cannot accept liquids of any kind, and Washington County does not recycle paint. The one exception for garage fluids: used motor oil and antifreeze, accepted at county recycling locations up to 5 gallons per visit.

Rule 05

Cardboard must be flattened to two feet square or smaller

County convenience centers take separated, flattened cardboard no larger than 2 feet square, and only with a Recycling Permit valid July 1 through June 30. Cut moving boxes down to size and skip the bags, since bags of any kind are not accepted.

Rule 06

Six or more old tires require a state waiver first

Bringing six or more tires to Forty West Landfill within 12 months requires a Temporary Scrap Tire Waiver from the State of Maryland. The waiver is free and usually approved within 48 hours, though it does not guarantee the landfill will accept the tires.

No. Cascade is unincorporated, so Washington County handles waste, and there is no free on-demand bulk pickup to count on. Junk left outside without a pickup arranged can count as illegal dumping. Residents haul it to a county facility or hire a hauler.

The county's Forty West Landfill takes household waste Monday to Saturday, 7:00am to 3:30pm, and the scales close at 3:00pm. Cash sales are open to any county resident, at about $55 per ton for household waste and $78 for construction debris, with a minimum scale fee.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Cascade starts at $85 for the first item, which includes the pickup fee. Each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking. Picking up from the curb or driveway takes $5 off.

For one small load, the landfill can be cheaper, since you pay by weight and the fee is low. You also supply the truck, the lifting, and the drive to Forty West. Paid removal fits better when you have heavy or bulky items or no vehicle.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups, as long as the items are out and you leave access notes. For indoor pickups, someone should be there or you can give access instructions when booking. Availability varies, so enter your address while booking to see open times.

A county residential permit covers only everyday bagged household trash from kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room. Construction debris isn't covered, and convenience centers don't accept other loads. Hazardous waste needs a specialist. Loaders can't haul hazardous materials either.

Loaders aim to donate usable items and recycle what they can, depending on what local organizations accept. Whatever can't be donated or recycled is taken to an appropriate disposal facility. Donation and recycling aren't guaranteed for every item.

The main difference is pricing and booking. Many traditional haulers price by truck space and may confirm a total on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For large cleanouts, a truckload quote may suit you better.
