The Problem

Getting rid of junk in San Diego takes more work than it should

First you read up on what the city will pick up. Then you call a few haulers, wait on callbacks that never come, and compare vague quotes. Weeks later, the junk is still sitting right where you left it.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

City bulk pickup programs can be a solid free option, but they come with eligibility rules, item limits, and their own schedule. Many apartments, condos, and businesses use private trash haulers, so they may not qualify. And you still have to get everything to the curb yourself.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Lots of haulers want to see the job in person before they'll quote you, and then they price it by how much of the truck it fills. That number can shift on pickup day. You won't know the real cost until your stuff is already loaded.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers need items they can actually resell, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken appliances often get turned away. Even good pieces mean hauling them over yourself and hoping they get accepted. Anything that's refused comes right back home with you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A dumpster makes sense for a full gut renovation, not for clearing out a spare bedroom. You plan around drop-off and pickup dates, may need a permit if it sits on the street, and lose a parking spot that your neighbors will definitely notice.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving San Diego, on both sides of the 805

Anyone who has watched the 5 turn into a parking lot on a Friday knows a mattress strapped to a roof is a bad plan, and the Trolley was never built for a dresser. Your Loaders handle the lifting and loading, and they like showing up for the people who make this city home.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items rarely belong in one place once they leave your home, and that matters in a city as spread out as San Diego. Your Loader sorts by condition, so donation, recycling, or disposal fits each piece.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

Furniture, housewares, and appliances in good, clean condition may be donated when local options allow. Your Loader sets those items aside so usable pieces can have a second life instead of heading to a landfill.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Items that are worn or damaged but not suited for donation may be recycled when possible. Metal frames, old appliances, and electronics are often good candidates where recycling options are available.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Local Disposal Rules

The San Diego disposal rules most residents don't know

Hazardous waste brought to Miramar Landfill is billed back at the full cost of its removal, one reason to know these rules for San Diego, San Diego County.

Rule 01

Freon appliances are banned from San Diego trash

Local and California law prohibit trash disposal of refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and other appliances containing CFCs, and Miramar Landfill refuses all refrigerant-containing appliances. The Miramar Recycling Center accepts them, along with stoves, washers, dryers and hot water heaters, for a per-item fee.

Rule 02

Palm fronds and succulents stay out of green waste

The Miramar Greenery does not accept palm trees or succulents, and City yard waste guidance lists palm fronds, cactus, yucca and banana trees as materials that make poor mulch and can damage the City's grinding machinery. A green container holding them may be left uncollected.

Rule 03

Remodel permits come with a refundable debris recycling deposit

Most building, combination and demolition permits require a Waste Management Form and a refundable C&D Debris Recycling Deposit. Projects permitted since July 2016 must divert 65 percent of debris by weight, with receipts submitted within 180 days of final inspection to recover the deposit.

Rule 04

Mattresses and box springs have a free City drop-off

Residents can drop off mattresses and box springs at no cost at the Environmental Services Mattress Collection Site on weekdays. The City ships them to a processor that separates steel, foam, fiber and wood for products like rebar and carpet padding.

Rule 05

No on-demand bulky item pickup for single-family homes

The City of San Diego does not offer on-demand pickup of couches, rugs or other oversized items for single-family homes. Residents can request a Community Cleanup where available, or self-haul to Miramar Landfill, which may refuse waste generated outside City limits.

Rule 06

TVs and computer monitors are accepted at no charge

The Miramar Recycling Center takes TVs, computer monitors and computer processing units as donation-only items, with no fee charged. Smaller household electronics from 1 to 49 pounds, including printers, keyboards and mice, are recycled for a per-pound fee instead.

Not outside a sanctioned event. San Diego has no free on-demand bulky pickup, and large items left at the curb on trash day can be treated as illegal dumping, which the city enforces. Community Cleanup events by Council district are the free curbside option.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in San Diego starts at $75, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Often yes, depending on the day's schedule and your address. Same-day and next-day slots open up in many San Diego neighborhoods, from Pacific Beach to North Park. Enter your address during booking to see live availability and arrival windows.

For curbside or driveway pickups, no. Leave the items out and add access notes at booking. For items inside a home, condo, or apartment, someone should be there or you can leave entry instructions, such as a gate code or building access details.

Hazardous materials like paint, solvents, pesticides, and car batteries generally can't go with a normal junk load. San Diego residents should use a household hazardous waste drop-off instead. Regular bulky furniture, appliances, and yard debris are usually fine.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill by donating them to local charities when options allow, and they try to recycle metal, cardboard, and e-waste where facilities accept it. Whatever can't be donated or recycled goes to an appropriate disposal facility.

Pick your items and enter your San Diego address online, choose a time window, and see your price before you confirm. On pickup day, your Loader usually calls or texts ahead of arrival, then removes the items and handles the loading and hauling.

Mostly the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King usually price by truck space, often confirmed on site. LoadUp prices per item online with the total set before booking. For big cleanouts, a truckload hauler can be a better fit.
