The Kapa‘a station does not take mattresses or furniture larger than three feet. Kauai County accepts these bulky items only at the Līhu‘e Refuse Transfer Station or Kekaha Landfill. Līhu‘e takes mattresses, box springs, and whole furniture items made of wood.
Garage cleanouts often turn up worn tires, old motor oil, and leftover propane cylinders. The Kapa‘a Refuse Transfer Station has its own recycling services for tires, used motor oil, and propane tanks, separate from the trash drop-off.
Kauai County requires pallets to be cut in half at its refuse transfer stations and cut into quarters at Līhu‘e. Kekaha Landfill is the only county site where pallets don't have to be cut, so whole pallets can go there.
