The Problem

Getting junk out of Rochester takes more than it should

You call around, leave messages with a few haulers, hear back from one, and figure out the trip to a transfer station yourself. Weeks go by, and the pile in the shop or carport is still waiting.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Out here, there's often no city bulk pickup program to call. Garbage service mostly comes from private haulers, and bulky items usually mean a special request, an extra charge, or a long haul to drop them off yourself. Heavy items still have to reach the road first.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Lots of haulers want to come look before they'll give you a number, and with a rural address that can mean waiting days for someone to show up. Then they quote by the fraction of a truckload, so the final cost can still change once loading starts.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers take items that are clean, working, and easy to resell. A water-stained recliner, an old chest freezer, or a couch your dogs claimed won't pass. You still have to load it, drive it in, and maybe bring it back home.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off has to be scheduled for delivery and pickup, needs firm, level ground that a gravel drive or soft field may not offer, and sits there for days. For a garage corner or one room, you end up paying for space you never use.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Pickup Options

Staged outside or carried out from where it sits

Curbside, or outdoor, pickup fits when your items are already outside. On a property set back from the road, that could mean a pile next to the garage or wherever the truck can pull up close. Choose full-service when things are still inside the house, upstairs, or in a spare bedroom or attic, and your Loaders will carry them out from where they sit.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Rochester, from the Black Hills down to the Chehalis River

Out here, a dump run means loading the truck yourself, driving a good while, and probably doing it twice because the old sofa and the busted dryer won't share the bed. Your Loaders carry it all from the barn, shed, or back acreage to the truck, and they like showing up for Rochester neighbors.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items pile up fast on a property with outbuildings and long driveways, and Rochester is a long haul from most disposal sites. Your Loader sorts each load by condition, so donation, recycling, or disposal fits the item.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

Furniture and household goods in good, clean condition may go to donation when local options allow. Your Loader carries them out from the garage or shed and keeps them separate from damaged items.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Recycling

Items that are damaged but still have usable materials, like metal frames or some appliances, may be recycled where available. Your Loader separates them during loading, though recycling options in this part of Thurston County can be limited.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Heavily damaged, soiled, or contaminated bulky items go to responsible disposal at an appropriate local facility. Your Loader handles the lifting from barn, yard, or back acreage, so nothing gets dumped or burned on your land.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Rochester disposal rules most residents don't know

In Rochester and across Thurston County, the wrong load can mean paying garbage rates on compostables or being turned away at the drop box.

Rule 01

Refrigerators and freezers cannot go to the Rochester drop box

Thurston County's drop-box facilities do not accept refrigerated appliances. The Waste and Recovery Center takes refrigerators, freezers, and water coolers but adds a per-unit handling fee for hazardous waste handling. Non-refrigerated appliances are still accepted at the Rochester site.

Rule 02

Every load headed for disposal must be tied down

Washington law under RCW 46.61.655 requires motorists to cover and secure loads so cargo cannot break free. Thurston County advises tying items down with rope, straps, or netting and covering the whole load with a tarp. Speed and weight do not count as securing devices.

Rule 03

Brush and clippings cost garbage rates at Rochester's drop box

The Rochester Drop-Box Facility treats all food and yard waste as garbage and charges regular garbage rates. The county Waste and Recovery Center accepts yard waste for composting seven days a week, excluding noxious weeds, dirt, rocks, root balls, and sod.

Rule 04

Remodel debris is accepted, but asbestos is not

Rochester's drop box accepts construction and demolition debris such as lumber, sheetrock, plaster, flooring, decking, and insulation at its own per-yard rate. Asbestos is not accepted at either county drop-box facility and is priced and handled separately at the Waste and Recovery Center.

Rule 05

Old tires from rural properties face a daily limit

County facilities take no more than five tires per vehicle per day, and tires at the drop boxes must be under 36 inches. The Rochester site handles tires as garbage, while the Waste and Recovery Center recycles tires kept separate from other materials.

Rule 06

TVs and monitors are turned away at county drop boxes

The Rochester and Rainier drop-box facilities do not accept TVs or monitors. Thurston County directs residents to participating E-Cycle Washington drop-off locations instead, where these items can be recycled for free rather than going to the garbage.

No. Rochester is unincorporated, so there's no city bulk pickup, and junk left outside counts as illegal dumping. Under Washington law (RCW 70A.200.060), dumping more than 1 cubic foot carries a minimum $500 fine, and over a cubic yard it's $1,000 to $5,000.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Rochester starts at $95 for a single item, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on charge, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Same-day pickup is sometimes possible, but it depends on Loader availability in the Thurston County area that day. Entering your zip code during booking shows the open time slots for your address. For curbside pickups, you usually don't need to be home.

Thurston County runs the Rochester drop-box site for garbage and recycling, and it's usually the closest option if you have a truck. Hazardous waste, large loads and some restricted items may not be accepted there. Check the county Solid Waste line at 360-867-2491 before you go.

Loaders try to donate usable items and recycle materials whenever options allow, depending on acceptance at local facilities. Items that can't be reused or recycled are taken to an appropriate disposal facility. Donation and recycling aren't guaranteed for every item.

Enter your zip code, select your items, and see an upfront price online. Pick a time window, and your Loader will usually give notice before arriving. Rural addresses along State Route 12 and on longer driveways can leave access notes at booking so the Loader can find the items.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King generally price by truckload and may confirm the total on site. LoadUp prices per item online, and the total is confirmed before booking. A county drop-box is cheaper if you can haul it yourself.
