The Problem

St. Mary's County junk options all leave you lifting

You check the county's site, call a couple of haulers, and wait on quotes that never come. One wants to see the pile first, another stops replying. Weeks later, the junk is still in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Here, the county generally leans on drop-off convenience centers rather than a doorstep bulk pickup program, so the hauling falls to you. That means borrowing a truck, loading heavy pieces yourself, and checking which items carry restrictions or extra fees before you go.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many local haulers want to come out for an in-person estimate before they'll name a number, then price by how much of the truck you fill. You don't really know the total until everything is loaded, and by then you're committed.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities around Lexington Park screen for condition, and they should. Stained upholstery, scuffed furniture, and worn mattresses often get turned away, and some won't come to your door at all. Whatever they pass on still needs a way out.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off is built for whole-house gut jobs, not a spare bedroom. You coordinate delivery and pickup windows, may need approval if it sits on the street, and it can mark up the driveway or bother neighbors while it sits for days.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The California disposal rules most residents don't know

Bulky items left in the wrong compactor can jam equipment and temporarily close a convenience center. Here is what applies in California and across St. Mary's County.

Rule 01

Coastal flood debris has qualified for waived landfill fees

After a 2021 coastal flood, the county temporarily waived landfill fees for storm debris such as wood from damaged piers, leaves and limbs, with proof of coastal residency. Sheetrock, flooring and furniture were excluded, and debris should not be piled on roadways.

Rule 02

Even a microwave cannot go to a convenience center

The county recycling guide lists both large and small appliances as unacceptable at convenience centers. Refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, air conditioners, heat pumps, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers are accepted for recycling at St. Andrews Landfill instead.

Rule 03

Your vehicle needs a residential disposal permit sticker

St. Mary's County requires a Residential Disposal Permit Sticker to dispose of waste at St. Andrews Landfill or any of the six convenience centers, and vehicles without one are turned away. Proof of residency can include military service identification. Recycling-only trips need no sticker.

Rule 04

Only residential construction debris is accepted at the landfill

St. Andrews Landfill currently accepts residential construction and demolition debris only, and the county recycling guide lists commercial construction and demolition debris as unacceptable. Contractor waste is also barred from the convenience center compactors.

Rule 05

Console and projection TVs are the electronics exception

Convenience centers have collected electronics for recycling since 2005, but the county states that console televisions and projection TVs cannot be recycled at this time. Those sets must instead go into the solid waste compactors at a convenience center.

Rule 06

There is no county curbside or bulk pickup service

The county does not provide curbside trash collection or special bulk pickup, citing cost. Convenience centers take the equivalent of up to four 35-gallon containers of household trash, and larger loads are directed to St. Andrews Landfill, where furniture and mattresses have designated collection points.

No. St. Mary's County does not provide residential curbside trash or special bulk pickup. Residents use the county's six convenience centers or the St. Andrews Landfill, or hire a private hauler for pickup at home.

Yes. Residents need a Residential Disposal Permit Sticker to use the St. Andrews Landfill and the six convenience centers. Vehicles without one are turned away, though recycling-only trips don't require a sticker. Improved residential properties also pay an annual solid waste service fee, listed at $60 per dwelling unit.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in California starts at $85, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking. Hauler quotes online average around $250 per job.

Same-day slots are sometimes available depending on the schedule and your address. Enter your address during booking to see live availability. For curbside or driveway pickups you don't need to be home. For in-home pickups, someone should be there or leave access instructions.

Household hazardous waste like oil-based paint, solvents, and pesticides needs special handling. The county holds collection events, and batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and thermostats are accepted at convenience centers. Latex paint must be hardened with an absorbent like cat litter before it goes in the trash.

Loaders aim to keep items out of the landfill whenever options allow. Usable furniture and household goods are donated when a charity accepts them, recyclables go to recyclers, and the rest is taken to an appropriate disposal facility. Outcomes depend on item condition and acceptance.

Choose your items online, get an upfront price, and pick a time window. On pickup day, Loaders arrive, load the items, and take them away. You approve the total before booking, so no on-site estimate is needed.

Pricing model and booking flow. Many local haulers charge by volume or job and give an estimate after inspecting your home. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before anyone arrives. For small jobs, that can be simpler, while a full-home cleanout may suit a truckload hauler better.
