Honolulu's bulky collection does not take televisions, computers, or other covered electronic devices. The City sends residents to its e-waste recycling options instead. Hawaii law also requires the makers of covered electronics to support recycling programs for them.
Bulky pickup has been by appointment only across Oahu since July 2020. A single-family home can book up to five bulky items, usually once a month. Only items listed on the appointment are collected, so an unlisted couch or mattress stays behind.
The City will not go onto private property to pick up scheduled bulky items. If your items will be somewhere other than in front of your property, such as around a corner or at a shared multi-unit spot, say so in the appointment's comments field or they may not be collected.
Honolulu's bulky item collection does not accept hazardous waste or propane tanks. Some City drop-off sites take gas cylinders and batteries, but not all of them do. Check the City's waste drop-off list before loading the car.
Metal appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, and water heaters are not booked with furniture. Honolulu handles them through a separate appliance appointment, which allows up to two metal appliances per single-family home.
