The Problem

Getting junk off the property here takes more than it should

You look up the county's options, call a hauler or two, wait on callbacks that never come, and add up the drive to the transfer station. Weeks go by, and the junk is still sitting in the carport.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Kauaʻi County's bulky item collection can help, but it usually takes advance scheduling, waiting for an open date, and following rules on what's accepted. Items with refrigerants, tires, or anything you can't get to the roadside yourself often don't qualify.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Lots of haulers want to come look before they'll give you a price, then charge by how much of the truck you fill. On the south shore you might also pay for their travel time and still not know the final total until they've loaded up.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift and reuse spots on the island have limited room, so they turn away anything stained, broken, or out of date. Even items they would take still need someone to load them up and drive them over, and that part is on you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container takes up your driveway or the street for days, and you still do all the lifting yourself. Delivery windows on Kauaʻi can be tight, and neighbors notice. For one garage or a single room, it's far more than the job needs.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving ‘Ele‘ele, up and down Kaumualiʻi Highway

On Kauaʻi, getting rid of something big takes more than a quick dump run, especially when you have no truck and the disposal site is a long drive away. Your Loader does the lifting, carrying, and loading, from garage to yard. Showing up for ‘Ele‘ele neighbors is something we genuinely look forward to.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items pile up fast in ‘Ele‘ele, where the nearest disposal site is a real drive away. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, so reusable pieces may be donated and the rest handled responsibly.

Donation Pickup

Items in good, clean condition may be donated when possible and local options allow. Your Loader can set usable pieces aside, though donation outlets on Kauaʻi are limited and can change over time.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Visible Wear

Recycling

Worn or damaged items that can't be donated may be recycled where available. Island recycling options are narrower than on the mainland, so your Loader uses what local outlets currently accept.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Heavily damaged or contaminated bulky items, like soaked mattresses or broken furniture, are hauled away by your Loader for responsible disposal at an approved Kauaʻi County facility, since ‘Ele‘ele has no local dump.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The ‘Ele‘ele disposal rules most residents don't know

If you haul a load to the wrong Kauai facility, you can be turned away and lose a day of your cleanout. These rules apply in ‘Ele‘ele and across Kauai County.

Rule 01

Hurricane debris cannot be piled in a regulatory floodway

After Hurricane Lowell, Kauai County reminded residents that piling debris in a regulatory floodway is prohibited. Lots near the Hanapēpē River should check for this. Storm debris sites take only specific materials, so separate appliances, metals, and construction debris first.

Rule 02

Electronics recycling stays free because of a state law

Hawaii's Electronic Device and Television Recycling Law requires manufacturers and retailers to run recycling programs. That funding helps keep eWaste drop-off at Puhi Metals Recycling Center free for residents. The county's hazardous waste events do not accept electronics, so keep them separate.

Rule 03

Mattresses and large furniture are not accepted at Hanapēpē

Mattresses and furniture bigger than three feet are accepted only at the Līhuʻe Refuse Transfer Station or Kekaha Landfill. The nearby Hanapēpē station does not take them. Kauai County also offers no curbside bulky item collection, so these items must go to one of those two sites.

Rule 04

Lumber and pallets need cutting before they reach a station

Commercial construction and demolition items must be cut into sections of three feet or less. Pallets must be cut in half at refuse transfer stations and quartered at Līhuʻe. Kekaha Landfill is the only site that takes whole pallets.

Rule 05

Dried latex paint is not taken at hazardous waste events

Kauai County holds free, residents-only Household Hazardous Waste events, but latex paint is not accepted there because it is not hazardous. Let the paint harden completely and leave the lid off so the waste collector can see it is dry.

Rule 06

Appliances and scrap metal go to Hanapēpē, not Līhuʻe

The Hanapēpē Refuse Transfer Station and Kekaha Landfill both accept metals and appliances. The Līhuʻe Refuse Transfer Station takes neither scrap metal nor appliances and sends them to Puhi Metals instead. For West Side households, that makes the closer sites the better choice.

Not unless it is part of a scheduled county collection. Kauai County's regular refuse service covers bagged household trash in carts, not piles of furniture or debris. Items left out unscheduled can be treated as illegal dumping, so confirm current rules with Kauai County Solid Waste.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in 'Ele'ele starts at $95, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on charge, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

It depends on Loader availability on the day. Kauai has a smaller service area than mainland metros, so enter your address at booking to see live same-day or next-day openings for 'Ele'ele and nearby Port Allen.

Hazardous materials such as paint, solvents, pesticides, and batteries generally can't go in regular trash or standard junk loads. Kauai County runs separate programs and drop-off options for these, so check with County Solid Waste before disposing of them.

Loaders try to keep usable items out of the landfill by donating them to local charities when options allow. Recyclable materials go to recycling when accepted, and the rest goes to the proper disposal facility. Outcomes depend on item condition and acceptance.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups. You can leave items outside with access notes. For items inside your home, someone should be there or you can provide access instructions at booking. Your Loader will let you know before arriving.

Book online by entering your address, choosing your items, and picking a time window. You see the price before you confirm. On pickup day, a Loader arrives, confirms the items, removes them, and handles the hauling and disposal.

The main difference is pricing. Truck-based haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK generally price by the volume of the load, often confirmed at the home. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms your total before booking. For large cleanouts, a truckload hauler can sometimes fit better.
