The Problem

Grand Junction has options. The junk is still there.

You read the pickup rules, call to find out whether your address even qualifies, then chase quotes from a few haulers. Two answer, one never calls back, and the junk sits through another month of weekends.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Cleanup week arrives on a neighborhood rotation, so the timing rarely matches when the garage actually needs clearing. Off-schedule loads mean calling Solid Waste for a special pickup, and appliances, remodel debris, and anything hazardous sit outside what city crews take, assuming your address is even on their route.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Most outfits here want to eyeball the job first, so an afternoon disappears to a driveway estimate before anything moves. The number lands later, priced by truckload, so you are quoted for space you were never going to fill, and it can still shift on pickup day.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift and reuse shops have to resell what they accept, so sagging cushions, water stains, missing hardware, and anything stored in a dusty garage get turned away at the dock. You still handle the loading, the driving, and the trip home with whatever they refused.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off is sized for a remodel, not one bedroom's worth of junk. It occupies the driveway for days, can require a permit if it lands in a street or alley, and still leaves every bit of the lifting to you. Neighbors notice, too.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving all of Grand Junction, on both sides of the Business Loop

Around here you give directions by number roads and half roads, and everybody knows exactly where you mean. What nobody wants is a triple digit afternoon spent loading a truck, then crawling out to the landfill and back. Your Loaders do the lifting instead, and they like showing up for neighbors who have better things going on.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Most Grand Junction junk falls into three buckets: still usable, worth breaking down for materials, or truly spent. Your Loaders sort each piece on sight, so sound items are not landfilled by default.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

A clean dresser or a working treadmill pulled from an Appleton garage may be offered to local donation outlets when conditions and nearby options allow. Stained, broken, or weathered pieces skip that route.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Visible Wear

Recycling

Scrap metal, an old evaporative cooler shell, or a dead TV can be set aside for recycling where available. Colorado keeps electronics out of landfills statewide, so those follow a separate path.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

A soaked mattress or shattered particleboard shelving has no second life left in it, so your Loaders haul it off to a permitted disposal site, typically a Mesa County facility equipped for bulky loads.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Grand Junction disposal rules most residents don't know

Set out the wrong item and crews leave it behind, or Mesa County Landfill turns the load away at the gate. Here is what Grand Junction requires.

Rule 01

Colorado bans electronics from every landfill statewide

Colorado's Electronic Recycling Jobs Act has kept televisions, computers, monitors, printers and similar devices out of state landfills since July 2013, and haulers may not knowingly collect them for disposal. Mesa County's hazardous waste facility recycles e-waste by the pound.

Rule 02

Freon appliances are refused at the Mesa County Landfill

The landfill rejects appliances containing refrigerants such as Freon, propane or ammonia, because the gas must be recovered first. The county hazardous waste facility takes refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners for $65 each, emptied of all food.

Rule 03

Spring Clean-Up limits pile size and item length

The city's free Spring Clean-Up runs two weeks each spring, with neighborhoods north and south of North Avenue served on different weeks. Piles exceeding 10 cubic yards bring a $150 charge, and nothing longer than six feet is collected.

Rule 04

Remodel rubble and shingles are excluded from curbside cleanup

Asphalt, brick and concrete rubble and roofing shingles are left off the city clean-up list, so renovation debris goes to the landfill, where every load must be fully covered and secured or the gate charges double.

Rule 05

Burning yard waste requires an acre and a permit

Open burning inside city limits is allowed only on properties of at least one acre, and only with a Mesa County Public Health residential permit costing $25. City burn seasons are shorter than the rest of the county.

Rule 06

Automated trucks only lift the city-issued cart

Grand Junction's collection trucks grab only the container the city provides, so furniture, boxes and loose bags placed beside the cart are passed over. Municipal code also restricts who may collect and haul refuse within city limits.

The city's free Spring Clean-Up is the main curbside bulk option, but it runs only two weeks each spring for single-family homes in city limits. Piles go against the gutter, at least three feet from cars and fences, never on lawns or sidewalks. Items left out any other time can count as illegal dumping. Call Solid Waste at 970-244-1570.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Grand Junction starts at $75 for one bulky item, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item covers the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on, so your total is confirmed before you book. Self-hauling to the Mesa County Landfill runs a $10 minimum for up to 380 pounds.

Same-day or next-day pickup is often available across Grand Junction and Mesa County when you book early in the day. Enter your zip code during online booking to see live availability for your address, from the Redlands to Clifton and Orchard Mesa.

Hazardous materials like paint, chemicals, batteries, and anything with Freon stay off the Spring Clean-Up pile, and the city's prohibited list rules out more. Mesa County runs a free Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 3071 US-50, open Wednesday through Saturday. LoadUp Loaders haul most bulky household junk, just not loose hazardous waste.

Loaders aim to donate usable items and recycle what they can, keeping reusable goods out of the landfill whenever options allow. Mesa County also keeps a free reuse area for materials like wood and bricks. Whatever can't be donated or recycled goes to the Mesa County Landfill for proper disposal.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups. Just leave the items out with access notes and take $5 off the price. For junk inside your home, someone should be present or provide access instructions at booking. Your Loader typically calls ahead before arriving.

It comes down to pricing and booking. Local haulers like GJ Haul Away and national names like 1-800-GOT-JUNK usually quote by truckload or weight after an in-person look, so your price firms up once the truck shows. LoadUp prices per item online and locks it in before anyone arrives.
