The Problem

Getting rid of junk in Tulalip takes more than it should

You search for options, call around about pickup rules, and request quotes from a few haulers. One sends a vague range, another never calls back. Weeks pass, and the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Bulk pickup programs can work well, but reservation households may not have the same service as nearby Marysville. Where a program exists, it often limits items, needs advance scheduling, and requires you to drag everything out to the pickup spot yourself.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to come out and see the job before they give you a number, and then they price it by how much of the truck it fills. You often don't know the real total until the truck is already loaded.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers have to be selective, so they turn away stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and anything broken. You still have to load and drive everything there yourself, and anything they refuse rides back home with you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

On a tree-lined lot with a narrow driveway, a roll-off bin can block access, dent the pavement, and sit there for days. You still do all the lifting, and for one room of junk, you end up paying for space you never fill.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The Tulalip disposal rules most residents don't know

Dumping on reservation land can bring a tribal infraction, and the wrong load gets turned away, so here is how disposal works in Tulalip and across Snohomish County.

Rule 01

Reservation dumping code covers tidelands and wetlands too

Under Tulalip Tribal Code, releasing a toxic pollutant or hazardous substance on reservation lands, wetlands, tidelands or waters is a Class A infraction. The rule carries weight here: the old Tulalip Landfill, operated outside permits, leached toxics into the Snohomish Estuary.

Rule 02

Windstorm stumps and grass clippings need an organics recycler

Pacific Northwest storms can drop whole trees, but Snohomish County solid waste facilities do not accept stumps or grass. Both must go to a yard debris or organics recycler, so plan separate trips for root balls and lawn waste after a blow.

Rule 03

Electronics are turned away from county solid waste facilities

Snohomish County solid waste facilities do not accept electronics such as TVs, computers and monitors, and direct residents to electronics recyclers instead. The state's E-Cycle Washington program provides free recycling for many of these covered devices.

Rule 04

Tribal members get a free garbage allowance at the tribal dump

The Tulalip Tribes Solid Waste and Recycling program lets tribal members dump up to 200 pounds of garbage free, one trip per household per day, even if they live off the reservation. Elders 62 and older can get garbage pickup on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Rule 05

Long items must be under six feet at smaller sites

At the North County Recycling and Transfer Station and the county's drop box sites, items must be shorter than six feet. Household sofas, appliances, mattresses, doors and yard debris are among the exceptions, so other long pieces need cutting down before the trip.

Rule 06

Fridges and dehumidifiers are refused at county facilities

Snohomish County facilities do not accept refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, heat pumps or dehumidifiers because of air pollution rules on CFCs. Scrap metal dealers can take them with proof the freon and compressor were removed, and some appliance retailers may accept or pick up old units.

No. Curbside garbage service on the Tulalip Reservation is mainly for elders age 62+, with pickup on Tuesdays and Fridays. Items left outside without an arranged pickup can count as illegal dumping, so book a pickup or haul it to a transfer station.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Tulalip starts at $95, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking. Traditional haulers usually charge by truckload.

Tribal members can use the Shelco Transfer Station 8am to 4pm daily with tribal ID, and the first 200 lbs is free. Everyone else pays Snohomish County's self-haul rate, which in 2026 is a $30 minimum for loads up to 360 lbs, then $160 per ton. Self-hauling is cheaper if you have a truck.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups. Leave the items out and add access notes when you book. For in-home pickups, someone should be there, or you can leave access instructions. Availability depends on your address, so enter your zip during booking to see open times.

The Tulalip Tribes don't run the Shelco Transfer Station, so accepted items are set by Shelco and you should call them before a trip. Tribal members' free 200 lbs doesn't transfer to others, and the tribal member must be present. Hazardous items and large loads often need special handling.

Loaders aim to donate usable items and recycle what they can, depending on what local charities and recyclers accept. Whatever can't be donated or recycled goes to an appropriate disposal facility. Outcomes vary by item and condition, so none of it is guaranteed.

Pick your items and a time slot online, see your price, and confirm. The total is locked in before anyone arrives. On pickup day, your Loader typically calls ahead, then carries the items out and loads them, so you don't have to lift anything.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers usually charge by truckload and quote on site, while LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For a truckload of mixed junk, a traditional hauler or a self-haul trip can sometimes be the better fit.
