The Problem

Getting rid of junk in Suffolk shouldn't take a month

You check the city website, call a few haulers, and wait on quotes that never show up. Somebody promises to come by Thursday and doesn't. Weeks go by, and the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

City bulk pickup programs work well for an old recliner set out on collection day. They're harder to use when your junk is stuck in a back shed, too big for the curb, or not on the accepted list, and you still have to request a spot and wait.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

A lot of haulers want to walk the job before they'll name a price, and then they quote by fractions of a truckload. You won't know if your pile counts as a quarter or a half until the truck is loaded, and by then you're committed.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities have to be careful about what they take, so stained upholstery, scratched furniture, and older appliances often get turned away. Even when they say yes, you're usually the one loading it up and driving it over.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

If you're clearing a single spare room, you don't need a steel container sitting in the driveway for a week. You'd have to book drop-off and pickup dates, maybe check placement rules, put up with neighbors' looks, and still do all the lifting yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Pickup Options

Leave it in the driveway or have it carried out

Curbside, or outdoor, pickup suits items you've already set out in the driveway or beside the garage, which is often the simplest route on larger lots with room to stage a load. Choose full-service when things are still inside, like a dresser on the second floor of a newer subdivision home or a workbench at the back of a barn, and your Loaders will carry it out from where it sits.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Suffolk, from the Nansemond River to the North Carolina line

Suffolk is a city where one errand can mean a long run down Route 58 or 460 with a load strapped to a borrowed truck, and nobody loves that. Skip it. Your Loader handles the lifting, carrying, and loading from garage, shed, or barn, and showing up for neighbors here is the good part of the job.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Big, bulky items are hard to move alone, and Suffolk's mix of suburban streets and rural lots makes a dump run a real chore. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, so more of it can stay out of landfills.

Local Disposal Rules

The Suffolk disposal rules most residents don't know

Break SPSA facility rules and you can lose your drop-off privileges, and prohibited items are refused at the curb. The rules below apply in South Suffolk and the City of Suffolk.

Rule 01

Storm-downed limbs must be cut to size for curbside pickup

Limbs from storm cleanup set out for Special Pick-Up must be under 6 feet long and no larger than 24 inches across. Waste from contractor tree removal is not collected, and SPSA transfer stations only take limbs up to 6 inches in diameter.

Rule 02

Electronics drop-offs are unlimited but capped at five items daily

SPSA gives residents unlimited household hazardous waste and e-waste trips each year with proof of residence, but only 5 e-waste items per day. Accepted items include LCD monitors and TVs, microwaves, and gaming systems, which never belong in curbside bins.

Rule 03

Boats go to the regional landfill drained and battery-free

Old boats have their own way out. SPSA accepts boats at its Regional Landfill in Suffolk, but all batteries and liquids have to be removed before delivery. Drained motor oil and gasoline are accepted separately as household hazardous waste.

Rule 04

One free bulk pile per week, with bagged trash excluded

Since July 2025, Suffolk's Special Pick-Up has no yearly limit. You get one pile per week, up to 12 cubic yards, set out no earlier than 24 hours ahead. Household trash bags are not collected, and bigger piles require a fee paid in advance.

Rule 05

Refrigerators without a certification sticker need the regional landfill

Under SPSA's rules for air conditioners and refrigerators, transfer stations accept units with a certification sticker showing they are free of chlorinated fluorocarbons or other restricted chemicals. Units without the sticker go to the Regional Landfill in Suffolk instead.

Rule 06

Renovation debris like drywall and concrete stays out of curbside piles

Suffolk does not take remodeling debris such as shingles, asbestos, and drywall, or land-clearing waste like bricks, dirt, and concrete, in carts, roll-offs, or special collections. SPSA transfer stations accept small amounts of concrete in small pieces, and large loads go to the Regional Landfill.

Only as a scheduled special collection. Anything set outside your city trash container counts as one, and bags left beside the container won't be picked up. The city allows one pile of 12 cubic yards or less per scheduled day. Call Refuse at (757) 514-7630.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Suffolk starts at $85 for the first item, which includes the pickup fee. Each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking. Curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off the base price.

Yes. The city provides 12 special collections per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) at no extra charge, each 12 cubic yards or less. Extra collections, or piles between 12 and 24 cubic yards, cost a fee. Call (757) 514-7630 to schedule and arrange payment.

Same-day slots depend on Loader availability in your area, so enter your address at booking to see live options. For curbside pickups you don't need to be home. For indoor pickups, someone should be there or you can leave access instructions.

Piles over 12 cubic yards aren't covered by the free collections. The city may take loads up to 24 cubic yards for a fee, and anything larger needs another option. Large cleanouts in rural areas like Whaleyville or Holland often fit a private hauler better.

Loaders aim to donate usable items and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance at local charities and facilities. Items that can't be reused or recycled go to an appropriate disposal facility. Donation and recycling outcomes can't be guaranteed for every item.

You choose your items online, see the price, and pick a time window. Your Loader typically calls or texts before arriving. On pickup day they load everything, and the total you were quoted at booking is what you pay.

The main difference is pricing and booking. College HUNKS offers free estimates, and truck-based haulers generally price by how much space your load takes. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For a full-house cleanout, a truckload hauler can make more sense.
