The Newton County Landfill accepts remodeling debris such as lumber, shingles, carpet, commodes, bath tubs, drywall and tile. It also accepts asbestos, but only with 24 hours' notice before delivery. The asbestos must be wrapped to Georgia EPD standards and come with a manifest.
Porterdale does not run its own recycling collection, so cardboard and other recyclables go to Newton County's Neighborhood Recycling Centers. Residents need a county vehicle hang tag to use them. The centers have recycling containers for items including metal, aluminum and cardboard.
Newton County convenience centers accept limbs only if they are under 6 inches in diameter and less than 6 feet long. The limbs must also fit within a pickup bed. Cutting brush down to size before the trip keeps the load from being turned away.
Newton County's convenience centers are not equipped for large volumes. A load too big for a pickup bed must go to the landfill, and so must a trailer bigger than 5 by 6 feet or piled more than two feet high. The landfill does not accept the hang tag.
The county landfill does not accept CRT monitors and TVs or light bulbs. It holds special days for household electronics and paint, so check that schedule before you load up old screens.
