The Problem

Getting rid of junk in Laurel shouldn't take weeks

You call the city, then the county, and work out which one covers your street. Two haulers want to come out and look first, and a third never calls back. Meanwhile the junk sits there for another weekend.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Municipal pickup schedules are handy if your items fit the rules and your timing fits theirs. Limits on item types, a set collection date, and the need to get everything to the curb yourself mean they often don't fit a move-out deadline or a basement full of stuff.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to visit for an estimate before giving you a number, then price by how much of the truck your load seems to fill. You won't know the real cost until someone is standing in your driveway looking at your junk.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers need items they can actually resell, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken furniture often get turned away. That leaves you hauling the rejects back home, still needing a way to get rid of everything they couldn't take.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container takes up your driveway for days, may need approval from an HOA or a permit, and still leaves the lifting to you. If you're clearing one room or a few bulky pieces, you end up paying for space you never fill.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Hauling a box spring to the dump on a Saturday means joining the I-95 crawl, and the MARC train out of Laurel is not taking a sleeper sofa. Your week is full of commuting. Your Loaders lift it, carry it out, and haul it off, and LoadUp and your Loaders like showing up for people in this town.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items are hard to move alone, so where they end up matters as much as getting them out of your Laurel home. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, favoring donation or recycling when local options allow.

Local Disposal Rules

The Laurel disposal rules most residents don't know

Miss Laurel's Monday request deadline and a bulk or yard debris pile can sit another week. Here is what the City of Laurel and Prince George's County require.

Rule 01

Food scraps no longer belong in the trash cart

Laurel was the first Maryland municipality to make residential composting mandatory, effective July 1, 2025. Food scraps, food-soiled paper, and compostable plastic must be kept out of the trash. So must leaves, grass clippings, and other landscape debris.

Rule 02

Compressed air canisters are barred from city bulk pickup

Laurel won't take compressed air canisters in special pickups. For restricted items the City cannot collect, it points residents to Prince George's County's Brown Station Road Landfill in Upper Marlboro, about 23 miles south, which sets its own hours, accepted items, and fees.

Rule 03

Free leaf vacuuming runs only from late October into December

From late October through the first Friday in December, Laurel vacuums leaves free of charge on a set day for each street. City crews will not vacuum leaves from private property or alleys, and service stops on days with snow.

Rule 04

Trash outside City-issued carts gets tagged and left behind

Laurel requires all household waste to go inside City-issued carts. Public Works tags and leaves behind extra trash bags and personal containers set out at the curb, so cleanout overflow needs a bulk pickup or another disposal option.

Rule 05

Bamboo and tree trunks are not yard waste in Laurel

Bamboo isn't accepted in the City's yard waste collection and must be requested as a bulky pickup. The same goes for tree trunks and branches 3 inches or wider. Smaller brush must be under 4 feet long, tied, and bundled no wider than 2 feet.

Rule 06

Bulk pickup slows down in winter and skips holiday weeks

Laurel's Residential Special Pickup serves single- and two-family homes on most Wednesdays. There are no pickups in holiday weeks, and in winter service drops to roughly every other week. Fees are billed after the pickup by mailed invoice.

Not without a scheduled pickup. Junk set out outside your collection day or past the allowed bulk limits can be treated as illegal dumping and may bring a fine. Check with your trash provider, the City of Laurel or Prince George's County, for bulk rules at your address.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Laurel starts at $85, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on. The exact total is confirmed before you book. Truckload haulers usually quote by volume.

Same-day slots are sometimes available, depending on Loader schedules and demand in your area. Enter your address during booking to see live availability. Next-day is usually easier to get. For curbside pickups you don't need to be home, but indoor pickups need access.

Hazardous materials such as paint, solvents, pesticides, and batteries generally can't go in regular trash or bulk pickup. Large or restricted items may need special handling or a county facility. Check with Prince George's County for current drop-off rules before disposing of them.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill. Depending on acceptance, furniture and household goods may go to local donation partners, and recyclable materials go to recyclers when options allow. Items that can't be donated or recycled go to an appropriate disposal facility.

You book online, pick the items and a time window, and see your total before confirming. A Loader typically gives you a heads-up before arriving, then carries the items out and loads them. You don't have to move anything to the curb yourself unless you want the $5 curbside discount.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King typically price by truck volume, often after an on-site estimate. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total confirmed before booking. For big full-house cleanouts, a truckload hauler may fit better.
