The Problem

Milwaukee gives you options, just not easy ones

You check the city's website, call around for quotes, and wait on haulers who never call back. A week slips by, then two, and the junk is still sitting in the garage where it started.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

City bulk pickup programs can be a solid deal if you qualify. You usually have to request a pickup ahead of time, wait for an open slot, and get everything to the curb or alley yourself. Some items are excluded, and renters may not be covered at all.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to come by for an in-person estimate before they give you a number. Then they quote in fractions of a truckload you can't picture. The final bill can change once they see the stairs, and you've taken time off just to learn what you'll owe.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donating is a great move for furniture in good shape. But resale shops and charities turn away stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and anything broken. Many also expect you to drop items off yourself, so whatever they decline ends up back in your trunk.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off makes sense for a gut renovation, not a cleared-out bedroom. Placing one on the street may require a city permit, delivery windows rarely fit your schedule, and a big bin blocking a narrow alley or a neighbor's parking spot wins nobody over.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Milwaukee, from the lakefront to the Menomonee Valley

Anyone who has wrestled a sofa into a borrowed truck, then dodged potholes and icy alley ruts on the way to the drop-off, knows Milwaukee does not make this easy. Your Loader does the carrying and the hauling. Showing up for neighbors here is the part your Loaders like best.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Big, bulky items are hard to deal with alone, and where they end up matters as much as getting them out. In Milwaukee, your Loader sorts each pickup by condition, so reusable pieces and true trash take different paths.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

Furniture, appliances, and household goods in good, clean condition may be donated when possible and where local options allow. Your Loader sets those items aside during the haul-out so they can be considered for reuse.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Visible Wear

Recycling

Items that are worn or damaged but not donatable may be recycled when possible, such as metal frames or scrap materials, depending on what local recycling options allow at the time of your pickup.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Heavily damaged, soiled, or contaminated bulky items, like ruined mattresses or water-logged furniture, are taken for responsible disposal. Your Loader carries them out and handles the rest, following local disposal rules.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Milwaukee disposal rules most residents don't know

Set waste out wrong and your cart can be tagged, with a charge if it isn't fixed before reinspection. These rules apply in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County.

Rule 01

Corrugated cardboard is banned from every Wisconsin landfill

State recycling law bars corrugated cardboard and other containerboard from landfills and incinerators, including from homes, though waxed cardboard is exempt. The DNR asks residents to flatten boxes, and Milwaukee Drop Off Centers accept large corrugated cardboard.

Rule 02

Shovel a clear path to your carts after snowfall

City ordinance requires residents to provide a clear, unhindered path to their garbage and recycling carts within 72 hours of the last snowfall. It appears on the sanitation violations list, so dig out access before a winter cleanout adds extra bags.

Rule 03

Remodeling debris cannot go in your city carts

Milwaukee handles construction and demolition waste separately from household garbage. It must either be taken to a city Drop Off Center or collected through a special pickup with the fee paid in advance. Old glass windows count as construction debris.

Rule 04

Old TVs and computers have been trash-banned since 2010

Since September 1, 2010, Wisconsin has banned televisions, computers, monitors, desktop printers and other listed electronics from the trash, and city crews will not pick them up. Milwaukee Drop Off Centers take up to three TVs per visit at $5 each.

Rule 05

Brush pickup stops completely from December through March

Milwaukee takes brush pickup requests only from April through November. Piles can be up to 2 cubic yards, about the size of a couch, with no branch longer than 4 feet or thicker than 6 inches. Bigger piles go to a Drop Off Center.

Rule 06

Only a recliner-sized load of bulky items goes out weekly

On your regular garbage day, the city takes 1 cubic yard of bulky items, roughly a recliner, like broken furniture or a queen mattress. Larger amounts need a special pickup request. Appliances, electronics, tires and yard waste are not considered bulky waste.

Only what the city's sanitation program accepts, on your scheduled collection day and set out properly. Piles left at the curb or alley outside those rules can be treated as illegal dumping and ticketed. Check with Milwaukee DPW Sanitation for current rules.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Milwaukee starts at $90, and curbside or outdoor pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. Your exact total is confirmed before booking.

Sometimes, depending on Loader availability in your area that day. Next-day and scheduled slots are more common. Enter your address during booking to see the real openings for your neighborhood, from Bay View to Riverwest.

Not for curbside or outdoor pickups, since items can be left out with access notes. For in-home pickups, someone should be there or you can leave access instructions when booking. Loaders typically send a heads-up before they arrive.

Hazardous items like paint, chemicals, and batteries generally can't go out with regular trash, and the city limits what large items it will collect curbside. Confirm current limits with Milwaukee DPW before setting anything out. Restricted items usually need a special drop-off.

Loaders aim to donate usable items to local charities and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance. Anything that can't be reused or recycled goes to an appropriate disposal facility. Outcomes vary by item condition and what local partners will take.

You choose your items and time slot online, see the total upfront, and book. On pickup day your Loader arrives in the window, confirms the items, and does the lifting and loading. You don't need to move anything yourself, and the price you were quoted stays locked.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King usually price by truck space, often confirmed on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For large cleanouts, a truckload hauler may suit you better.
