The Problem

Getting rid of junk in DeForest takes more than it should

You check the village website, call around for quotes, and wait on a couple of haulers who never call back. A week goes by, then another, and the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Village collection works well for routine trash, but bulky items usually need extra steps, like scheduling ahead or following item limits. Some things may not qualify at all. And you still have to drag everything to the curb yourself, heavy or not.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to see the job in person before giving you a number, and that means booking a visit just to get a quote. Truckload pricing can be hard to read, so you may not know the real total until the truck is already loaded.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities have to be choosy about what they can resell, so stained, broken, or worn items often get turned away. Even good stuff has to be loaded, hauled, and dropped off during their hours, and whatever they refuse comes home with you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container takes up your driveway for days, may need approval from the village if it sits on the street, and has to be scheduled for drop-off and pickup. You still do all the lifting, and neighbors aren't always thrilled to see it.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving DeForest, from the Yahara River to the I-39/90/94 corridor

Wisconsin weather doesn't care that your garage has been full since last fall. One week it's slush, the next it's mud season, and neither is kind to anyone loading a truck by hand. Your Loaders handle the lifting and loading, because DeForest neighbors are exactly the people they like showing up for.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items pile up fast, and knowing where they end up matters in DeForest. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, considering donation or recycling when local options allow, and handles the rest responsibly.

Local Disposal Rules

The DeForest disposal rules most residents don't know

Put the wrong item out and it stays at the curb, or show up without a sticker and get turned away. These rules apply in DeForest and Dane County.

Rule 01

Dried latex paint can go in the trash cart

The Village treats latex paint as non-hazardous. Leave the lid off to let it dry, adding kitty litter to speed things up, then put the can in your automated trash cart. Mostly full cans in good condition can go to Clean Sweep for others to use.

Rule 02

Kitchen and laundry appliances are turned away at e-waste events

DeForest's electronics recycling events are for residents only. They accept TVs, computers, laptops, office equipment and vacuum cleaners. Refrigerators, stoves, ovens, microwaves, dishwashers, dryers, wash machines and treadmills are not accepted. Your Yard Waste Permit can serve as proof of residency.

Rule 03

Curbside bulk pickup is capped at one item monthly

LRS collects one curbside bulk item per household each month. You need to schedule it at least 48 hours ahead, and the item must weigh under 50 pounds and be manageable by one person. In late winter, the Village has added Saturday morning bulk drop-off at the Yard Waste Site.

Rule 04

Yard Waste Site entry requires a windshield sticker

Vehicles without a Yard Waste Sticker displayed on the windshield are not allowed in. Once inside, brush goes separately from grass clippings and leaves, which have their own cement bin pads. No garbage or trash is allowed at the site.

Rule 05

Used oil filters are banned from the trash statewide

Under Wisconsin Act 86, used oil filters and oil absorbent materials cannot be thrown away in regular garbage. The Village points residents to this state rule. When clearing out a garage or workshop, keep these items separate from household garbage and out of the cart.

Rule 06

Extra cardboard has a winter drop-off in the village

When holiday and winter deliveries overflow your recycling cart, the Village takes extra cardboard at the DeForest Public Service Building from late November into early April. Boxes must be broken down and flattened, and everything set out at the curb must fit inside the cart.

Only within the village's bulk pickup limits. DeForest allows one bulk item per month on your designated day, scheduled at least 48 hours ahead with LRS at 608-580-0580. Each item must be under 50 pounds and manageable by one person, and e-waste isn't accepted.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in DeForest starts at $90, with $5 off when items are at the curb or driveway. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on charge, and the exact total is confirmed before booking. Truckload haulers usually price by volume.

Same-day pickup is sometimes available, depending on the schedule and your zip code. Enter your address during booking to see live availability for DeForest. For curbside or driveway items you usually don't need to be home, and you can leave access notes.

The village's curbside program only takes items under 50 pounds that one person can lift, so heavy or bulky loads need another route. LRS, the village's hauler, can help with special items. The yard waste site at 610 N Stevenson St also takes bulk items and e-waste on limited seasonal Saturdays.

Loaders aim to keep as much as possible out of the landfill. Usable items go to local donation partners when they accept them, recyclables go to recycling facilities when options allow, and the rest goes to the proper disposal site. Outcomes depend on item condition and acceptance.

You book online, choose your items and a time window, and see the total price before confirming. On pickup day, your Loader calls ahead and arrives to haul the items away. For in-home pickups someone should be present or leave access instructions.

The main difference is the pricing model. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total confirmed before booking. Traditional haulers like College HUNKS and 1-800-GOT-JUNK typically price by truckload volume, which can suit very large cleanouts better.
