The Problem

Getting junk out of a Williamsburg home is harder than it looks

You search for options, call the locality to ask what qualifies for pickup, and request quotes from a few haulers. One calls back. Another wants to come look first. Meanwhile, the junk stays in the garage another month.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

City bulk pickup programs can work well for a single item at the curb, but they usually need a request ahead of time and come with limits on what counts as bulk. Your address may also fall under a different program than you expect, and nobody carries anything out for you.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to visit for an estimate before they'll give you a number, then price by how much of the truck you fill. You don't know the real cost until the crew is in your driveway, and by then it's hard to say no.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities around the Historic Triangle need things they can actually resell, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and older electronics often get turned away. You might be able to donate part of the pile, but you still have to deal with everything they won't take.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container takes up your driveway for days, may need permission from your HOA or the locality, and depends on the rental company's delivery schedule. You also do all the lifting yourself. For one spare room or a pile of old patio furniture, that's a lot of hassle.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Williamsburg, on both sides of I-64

Anyone who has tried to cross Richmond Road behind a tour bus in July knows a loaded-down hatchback is not the plan. Add a Jamestown Road stoplight or two, and a dump run eats the day. Your Loader does the lifting and loading, and we like showing up for the neighbors who keep this town running.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items pile up fast in Williamsburg, from retirement downsizing to rental turnovers in James City County. Your Loader sorts each load by condition, so usable pieces have a chance at reuse and less heads to the landfill.

When furniture or household goods are clean and in good shape, your Loader can set them aside for donation, when local options allow. Acceptance depends on the item's condition and what nearby organizations are taking.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request

  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

The Williamsburg disposal rules most residents don't know

Set out something Williamsburg won't collect, or miss the bulk appointment deadline, and it stays at your curb. Here's what applies in Williamsburg and James City County.

Rule 01

Fallen limbs need trimming and twine before curbside yard collection

Williamsburg takes up to ten bundles of sticks and limbs, tied with twine or boxed, or ten bags of leaves or grass clippings on your assigned collection day, no appointment needed. Limbs must be under four feet long and three inches thick.

Rule 02

Old televisions are turned away at regional computer recycling

VPPSA's computer recycling runs alongside its household chemical collections. It takes desktop and laptop computers, computer monitors, cell phones, desktop printers, fax machines, and desktop scanners, but not televisions. Hard drives are wiped, and any that fail the wipe are physically destroyed.

Rule 03

Bulk pickup caps you at two items, three times a year

Williamsburg collects mattresses, sofas, chairs, refrigerators, and washers or dryers by appointment only, with a limit of two large items per pickup and three pickups per year. Requests are due by noon the Thursday before, and items must be curbside before 7 a.m.

Rule 04

Moving boxes can go to Tewning Road free of charge

Williamsburg residents can drop off cardboard at no cost at the Tewning Road Recycling Center. Flattened boxes also go in the curbside recycling cart, but greasy pizza boxes, Styrofoam packing materials, and plastic bags are not accepted there.

Rule 05

Keep leftover paint and solvents out of hot, unventilated spaces

VPPSA takes latex and oil based paint, stains, solvents, pool chemicals, and pesticides at regional household chemical events, where you may need proof of residency. Its guidance says not to leave these materials in hot, unventilated areas for long periods, which matters during Tidewater summers.

Rule 06

Toilets and remodeling debris are barred from bulk pickup

Williamsburg's household bulk program will not collect remodeling or building materials, car parts, or toilets. The James City County owned Jolly Pond Convenience Center takes materials the bulk program excludes, and city residents pay with pre-purchased coupons based on load size.

Only what the city collects. Williamsburg picks up household trash in the city-issued cart on your Monday or Tuesday day, and bulk items need an arranged pickup by calling 757-220-6140. Remodeling materials, car parts, and toilets are not accepted.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Williamsburg starts at $85, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Sometimes. Availability depends on the schedule in your area, so enter your address during booking to see open times. For curbside pickups you don't need to be home. For in-home pickups, someone should be there or you can leave access instructions.

City bulk pickup excludes remodeling and building materials, car parts, and toilets. James City County's bulk service also refuses hazardous, commercial, and business waste. Items like these usually need a drop-off at a convenience center or a private hauler.

The Tewning Road Convenience Center at 117 Tewning Rd takes certain items from city residents. James City County's Jolly Pond Road center, at 1204 Jolly Pond Rd, is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Some items there, such as tires and brush, require coupons.

Loaders sort items and aim to donate usable pieces to local charities and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance. Items that can't be donated or recycled go to an appropriate disposal facility. Outcomes vary by item condition and what local partners accept.

Choose your items and enter your Williamsburg address online, then pick a time and see your total before you confirm. On pickup day your Loader arrives in the window, removes the items, and handles the loading, so you don't have to lift anything.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers usually price by truckload and may confirm the cost on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For large full-truck cleanouts, a truckload hauler may fit better.
