Schertz recycling carts accept uncoated corrugated cardboard only when it is dry, loose, and unshredded. Bagged materials are rejected even if they contain recyclables, and coated cardboard and pizza boxes are excluded, so break boxes down and place them loose.
Schertz no longer holds annual spring and fall cleanup events. Since Frontier Waste Solutions began service in mid-2025, brush and bulk items go to the curb every other week without scheduling, capped at three cubic yards, roughly three front-load washing machines.
Schertz treats electronic products, paint products, propane and helium tanks, auto and marine batteries, and mercury lamps as household hazardous waste. Residents can request a pickup from home once a month, and paint products must be dried before collection.
Schertz brush collection takes limbs no longer than four feet or thicker than four inches in diameter. Larger limbs should be split or cut down, then tied with string or twine into bundles beside the carts. Bagged yard waste can go in the garbage cart.
