Hondo sits in ranch and farm country, where a pickup load of old furniture or fencing often has no obvious place to go. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, so usable pieces and recyclables stay out of the trash when possible.
Items that are clean and still in good shape may be donated when possible and when local options allow. Your Loader sets those pieces apart from the rest of the load as it's being loaded.
Items that are damaged but not fit for donation, like bent metal fencing or a broken appliance, may be recycled where available. Your Loader separates them so they aren't mixed with general trash.

Overloading a bulk pickup can bring additional fees, and county burn bans change often, so these are the rules that apply in Hondo and across Medina County.
Medina County Commissioners Court declares countywide burn bans when drought and heat make burning dangerous. Bans have been lifted and reinstated within the same year. When no ban is in place, the county asks residents to notify the Sheriff's Office of controlled burns.
If you can't wait for a bulk pickup, STRD runs a collection station for large items, but it opens Saturdays only. Its rate list gives sofas, mattresses, box springs, and recliners their own line item, separate from bag and truckload rates.
The City of Hondo provides garbage service within city limits and only in portions of its extraterritorial jurisdiction, as one of its utilities along with water, sewer, and electric. Brush pickup is limited to residential customers who receive city garbage service.
City garbage customers can request brush pickup up to twice a month, and there is no standing schedule. Limbs cannot be more than 4 feet long or 9 inches in diameter, and STRD will contact you if a pile is over 8 cubic yards.
Beginning March 2026, STRD ended Hondo's spring and fall bulk pickup events. Bulk collection is now by request only. It is capped at 24 cubic yards per household per year and 8 cubic yards per pickup, and oversized loads may cost extra.
At STRD's Hondo collection station, a regular-size pickup loaded to the top of the fender pays a flat rate, and loads piled higher are charged more. Smaller amounts can be paid by the bag, with rates set by bag size.
