The Problem

So many ways to ditch junk, none that quite fit

You search online, call the city or county line, request a few hauler quotes, and wait. One hauler never calls back, another wants to stop by first. Meanwhile the junk sits in the garage another weekend.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Free city bulk pickup programs and municipal pickup schedules can help, but they usually come with limits on what qualifies, how much you can set out, and when. You still drag everything to the street yourself, then wait for your scheduled day.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to see the pile in person before quoting, then price by how much of the truck it fills. That makes the total hard to know until the day of, and it means extra time spent scheduling estimates.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers only accept items in good, resellable condition, and most turn away stained upholstery, worn mattresses, or broken pieces. You load your car, make the drive, and may come home with half of it still in the back seat.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A dumpster can sit in your driveway for days, take up parking your neighbors count on, and may need a permit to go on the street. For a single room or a few bulky pieces, you're paying for space you'll never fill.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Charleston, across the Ashley, the Cooper, and the Wando

Charleston humidity turns a sofa on the porch into a sponge, and an afternoon downpour or king tide can make even a short drive feel like a boat ride. Your Loaders handle the lifting and loading while you stay dry, because LoadUp and your Loaders genuinely like showing up for the people who make this place home.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items rarely belong in one place after they leave your home, and Charleston's mix of rentals, renovations, and storm cleanups proves it. Your Loader sorts by condition, so reusable pieces can be donated and the rest handled responsibly.

Donation Pickup

Furniture, housewares, and equipment in good, clean condition may be donated when local options allow. Your Loader can set these pieces aside during loading, though acceptance depends on what nearby donation channels are taking.

Local Disposal Rules

The Charleston disposal rules most residents don't know

Leave grass clippings loose or go over the renovation debris limit and the pile can sit uncollected. These rules apply in the City of Charleston and Charleston County.

Rule 01

Televisions and computer monitors are banned from South Carolina landfills

Since July 1, 2011, state law has barred residents from knowingly placing computers, computer monitors, printers, or televisions in any waste stream headed to a solid waste landfill. These devices contain lead, mercury, and cadmium, so they must be recycled instead.

Rule 02

DIY renovation debris is capped at 90 gallons per pickup

The City of Charleston collects construction or renovation refuse only when an owner or resident produced it and it stays within 90 gallons, roughly 3 by 4 by 1 feet, per trash collection cycle. Bigger remodels need a separate disposal plan.

Rule 03

Loose leaves and grass clippings must go in paper bags

Grass grows most of the year in the Lowcountry, so clippings pile up fast. The city requires leaves, twigs, weeds, and grass clippings to go in brown paper yard waste bags that residents supply. Loose piles are not collected, and household garbage cannot be mixed in.

Rule 04

Appliances need doors and drawers removed before curbside pickup

The city collects white goods, its term for large appliances like stoves, on the regular trash collection day, but every door and drawer must come off first. This keeps a child or pet from getting trapped inside a discarded unit.

Rule 05

Car tires and car batteries are excluded from curbside trash

The City of Charleston's refuse rules list car tires and car batteries among the materials it will not collect at the curb. Hazardous waste also cannot be set out curbside. The city tells residents to take it to the landfill instead.

Rule 06

Bulk furniture cannot go to the curb more than two days early

Furniture, bedding, and other bulk items go in their own pile, separate from yard debris and regular trash, no more than two days before the scheduled collection day. Smaller loose items like dishes and clothing should be bagged.

Not on your own schedule. Junk set out beyond what the city's regular collection accepts can be treated as illegal dumping and may be fined. Check with the City of Charleston Environmental Services or Charleston County for current bulk pickup rules before setting anything out.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Charleston starts at $80, and curbside or outdoor pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before booking.

Sometimes. Availability depends on your address and how full the schedule is, so enter your address during booking to see live openings. For curbside pickups you usually don't need to be home. For in-home pickups, someone should be present or leave access instructions.

Hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals, and batteries generally don't belong in regular curbside trash. Construction debris and oversized loads are often restricted too. Charleston County's Environmental Management program lists what its drop-off sites accept, so confirm there before hauling anything yourself.

Loaders sort items and try to donate usable pieces to local charities whenever options allow. They recycle what accepting facilities will take, depending on acceptance. Whatever can't be donated or recycled goes to an appropriate disposal facility, and donation or recycling is never guaranteed.

Book online, choose your items and a pickup window, and see your total before confirming. On pickup day your Loader arrives in the window, loads the items, and handles hauling. You can book for curbside or in-home pickup, including in downtown, West Ashley, James Island, and Daniel Island.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King typically price by truckload and often confirm cost on site. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total shown before booking. For a big cleanout, a truckload quote may suit you better.

Usually yes. Loaders handle items from inside homes, including narrow stairs and tight spots, which is common in older downtown houses. Note any stairs, gates, or limited street parking when booking so your Loader can plan the pickup for streets like those in Harleston Village or Ansonborough.
