The county transfer station in Williamsport no longer accepts roll-off containers or hooklift trucks because their volume strained its equipment. Those loads now go to the landfill in Montgomery. As of April 6, 2026, the landfill closes at 4 p.m. on weekdays and at noon on Saturdays.
Under the state Covered Device Recycling Act, computers and computer peripherals from homes and small businesses cannot go in municipal waste landfills. The county recycles banned covered devices for free for residents of its service area, using drop-off containers at the landfill in Montgomery.
