The Problem

Clearing junk around Indiana takes more than good intentions

You check the borough website, call the township, leave messages with a couple of haulers and wait. One sends a vague quote, another never calls back. Weeks later, the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Municipal pickup schedules around here can be a real help, but rules vary between the borough and nearby townships. Many limit how many items you can set out, turn away appliances or renovation debris, and expect you to drag everything to the curb yourself.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Lots of haulers want to come out and look before they'll give you a number, and then it's a fraction of a truckload that nobody can quite explain. You set aside an afternoon for the estimate and still don't know what the final bill will be.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Local thrift stores and charities need things they can actually resell, so stained upholstery, worn-out appliances and broken furniture often get turned away. Most also expect you to load it up, drive it over and carry it inside during their donation hours.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

For a basement or one spare bedroom, a dumpster is a lot. You have to plan around delivery and pickup dates, maybe get a permit for the street, and live with a big steel box on the driveway while you do all the lifting yourself.

What sets us apart

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.

The Indiana disposal rules most residents don't know

A television tossed in household trash or an unscheduled extra bulk item can be left at the curb. Here are the specific rules for Indiana, PA and Indiana County.

Rule 01

Refrigerators and freezers go to the county recycling center

The Indiana County Recycling Center accepts refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, and water coolers for a per-item fee, weekdays only. It no longer accepts dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, or small kitchen appliances like toasters and coffee makers.

Rule 02

Leaf waste must be kept separate from household trash

Borough Ordinance 1491 makes leaf separation mandatory for residents. The fall leaf vacuum collects only loose, unbagged leaves raked between curb and sidewalk, not into the street. Sticks, limbs, grass, and garden waste clog the vacuum and belong at the county recycling center.

Rule 03

IUP move-in and move-out weeks get extra trash pickups

Under the borough's 2025 Waste Management contract, multiple pick-ups continue during move-in and move-out at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Arrangements go through Indiana Borough, so landlords and student renters clearing apartments should coordinate with the borough ahead of those weeks.

Rule 04

Pennsylvania law keeps TVs and computers out of trash

Under Pennsylvania's Covered Device Recycling Act, televisions, computer monitors, laptops, and similar devices cannot go in household trash. The county recycling center's electronics program accepts residential items only, charges fees on all electronics, and turns away commercial material.

Rule 05

Bulk pickup allows two items during one week each month

Borough residents can set out two bulk items during the monthly collection week, usually the first full week, after scheduling with Waste Management. Eligible items include mattresses and box springs, bed frames, rolled carpet, cabinets, and furniture. Additional items can be scheduled for a fee.

Rule 06

Unlimited trash collection ended with the 96-gallon cart system

Under the borough's current contract, every household gets one 96-gallon Waste Management cart, and unlimited garbage collection is no longer permitted. Households that regularly produce more must purchase an additional cart. Old cans can go out with trash if labeled "throw away my trashcan."

Pricing model and booking flow. Traditional haulers usually charge by truckload and often give an estimate on site. LoadUp prices per item online, so your total is locked before anyone arrives. For a few items this is often cheaper, though full cleanouts can favor truckload pricing.

Yes. The Indiana County Solid Waste Authority runs the Indiana County Recycling Center in Homer City, with a 24-hour residential drop-off for many recyclables. It also has special programs for scrap tires, large metal appliances, and electronics. Self-hauling is cheaper if you have a truck.
