Township code makes it unlawful to collect, remove, or transport municipal waste, recyclables, or leaf waste in Tredyffrin without first registering with the Township Manager. The rule specifically covers landscapers and yard services that carry leaves off the property.
Tredyffrin runs a drop-off-only leaf site that opens at times during the year, and visitors must show proof of address. Twigs, hedge clippings, vines, fresh or rotten firewood, stumps, roots, thorn bushes, and large branches are turned away, so storm cleanup needs another route.
Pennsylvania law keeps televisions and computer monitors out of household trash. Tredyffrin and Easttown have co-hosted an Anything with a Plug event in late January that accepts televisions, laptops, printers, and fax machines, and all data media is destroyed or wiped. Smoke detectors are refused.
The Chester County Solid Waste Authority says latex paint is not hazardous waste and refuses it at county collection events. Take the lid off and let the paint dry, or mix in sawdust, clay-based kitty litter, or rags, then put it in the trash. Oil-based paint goes to hazardous waste events.
County hazardous waste events refuse Freon appliances, and the township electronics event takes no large appliances. That event does accept smaller units like air conditioners, dehumidifiers, and dorm refrigerators, and PECO has covered the fee for its customers recycling working units.
The Chester County Solid Waste Authority holds household hazardous waste events from time to time. You have to register online, and each household gets one appointment. Participants stay in their vehicles, loads are capped at 25 gallons or 220 pounds, and alkaline batteries are not accepted.
