The Problem

Delaware has junk options. None of them finish the job.

You check the city website, call to ask what counts as bulk, request a few hauler quotes, and hear back from maybe one. Meanwhile, the garage stays full and another weekend slips by.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Municipal pickup schedules can be a solid option if your address is covered, but bulk collection usually means calling ahead, waiting for your slot, and dragging everything to the curb yourself. Items like refrigerant appliances, tires, or renovation debris often fall outside the rules.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to walk your basement before naming a number, then price by fractions of a truck you can't picture. The quote you get on Tuesday may not match the bill on Saturday, and some never call back to give one at all.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation drop-offs want clean, working, resellable goods, so stained upholstery, scuffed particleboard, and outdated electronics often get turned away. Even when something qualifies, you still have to load it, haul it there, and hope it passes inspection at the door.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off makes sense for a full gut renovation, not a spare bedroom. You may need permission to park it on the street, a delivery window that fits, and patient neighbors staring at a steel box out front for a week. And you still do all the lifting.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The Delaware disposal rules most residents don't know

An overloaded cart or the wrong yard waste bag can leave trash sitting uncollected at the curb, so here is how disposal works in Delaware and Delaware County.

Rule 01

Leave refrigerant lines intact on old fridges and freezers

Refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners can go through the city's bulk collection program. Local scrap recyclers pay for appliances but cannot accept units with tampered Freon lines, and the county transfer station charges extra for Freon-containing appliances.

Rule 02

Compostable plastic bags still get yard waste rejected

Delaware takes yard waste only in biodegradable paper bags, marked 32-gallon containers, or bundles up to 4 feet long and 18 inches across, none over 50 pounds. Compostable plastic bags are refused. Collection pauses February to mid-April, and the county transfer center bans yard waste.

Rule 03

Remodeling debris is barred from city bulk collection

Concrete and masonry block, drywall, flooring, lumber, sheathing, shingles, insulation, stone, and asphalt are excluded from Delaware's bulk program, and city code defines household refuse as excluding construction waste. The county transfer center accepts construction debris and household trash as two separate waste types.

Rule 04

Heavy trash carts can be skipped at the curb

City code caps a loaded 96-gallon cart at 335 pounds, a 64-gallon at 224, and a 32-gallon at 115, and carts over those limits may not be serviced. Carts go out by 5 a.m., no more than 24 hours early.

Rule 05

Old electronics and TVs have a spring-to-fall drop-off window

Electronics are banned from Delaware's curbside recycling. The Delaware-Knox-Marion-Morrow Solid Waste District takes electronics and TVs by appointment on select Wednesdays from April through September, for a nominal fee and with proof of Delaware County residency required.

Rule 06

Bulk pickup is not built for whole-house cleanouts

Delaware's scheduled bulk collection caps each stop at eight items. It also excludes entire households of furniture or appliances from evictions, abandonments, fires, flooding, or weather events. If you haul bulk items to the county transfer center yourself, you pay a one-ton minimum fee.

Not unless it fits your tipcart or is part of a registered bulk pickup. Delaware's Public Works runs bulk collection weekly, usually Thursdays, with advance registration and payment required. Trash must be out by 5 AM on pickup day, and no more than 24 hours early.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Delaware starts at $75, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Same-day and next-day pickup are often available in Delaware, depending on the schedule in your area. Availability shows when you enter your address while booking. For curbside pickups you generally don't need to be home. For in-home pickups, someone should be there or you can leave access instructions.

Yes, the Delaware County Transfer and Recycling Center takes household trash and bulk items. Trash costs $68.36 per ton and construction debris $54.74 per ton, and both carry a one-ton minimum charge. Prohibited wastes are not accepted, so check the center's list before loading up.

Loaders aim to donate usable items to local charities and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance. Whatever can't be reused or recycled goes to licensed disposal sites. Outcomes vary by item condition, so donation or recycling can't be promised for every pickup.

You choose your items online, see the price, and pick an arrival window. A Loader arrives, does the lifting and loading, and takes the items away. Your total is confirmed before booking, so you aren't waiting on an on-site estimate.

The main difference is the pricing model and booking flow. Many traditional haulers such as 1-800-GOT-JUNK? price by truck space and may estimate on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For a full-home cleanout, compare quotes from each.

For a few bulky items that fit city rules, the city program can be the better deal. Delaware's bulk pickup is meant for items that don't fit your tipcart. It is not for whole-household cleanouts from evictions, fires, or flooding. Hauling services fit those jobs better.
