The Problem

Getting junk off a Charlotte property takes more than wanting it gone

You search online, call the town office, and leave messages with a few haulers who serve the area. One calls back with a vague quote, and the rest never do. Weeks later, the pile hasn't moved.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Many rural towns don't run a city bulk pickup program at all, and where trash service exists it often comes from private haulers with their own item limits. Appliances, mattresses and renovation scraps usually fall outside the rules, and nobody carries anything down a long driveway for you.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Some haulers want to drive out and look before they'll name a price, and that can mean a long wait in a spread-out area. Then the quote comes as a fraction of a truckload, and the final number can change once the work actually starts.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities have to be careful about what they accept, and most won't take a stained couch, a broken recliner or a dresser missing drawers. You also have to load it and drive it there yourself, then hope it gets accepted.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container makes sense for a full teardown, but clearing one spare room or a cluttered shed doesn't need one. You still have to schedule delivery and pickup, give up part of your yard or driveway for days, and do every bit of the lifting yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

The Charlotte disposal rules most residents don't know

Bringing the wrong item to a county transfer station means a wasted trip on one of its few open days, so here is what applies in Charlotte, Chautauqua County.

Rule 01

Rechargeable batteries stay out of the trash after a landfill fire

Firefighters and landfill staff contained a fire at the county landfill in Ellery in November 2024. The county now urges keeping rechargeable batteries out of the trash at every transfer station. Return them to any retailer that sells rechargeable batteries.

Rule 02

Couches and mattresses are priced per item, payable by cash or check

County transfer facilities charge for chairs, couches, mattresses, carpet rolls and toilets as individually priced miscellaneous items. They also accept tires and construction and demolition debris. Every county facility takes only cash or check, so you cannot pay by card.

Rule 03

Storm-downed branches go only to the Ellery transfer station

Yard waste, such as branches and other plant clippings, is accepted only at the Ellery facility at the county landfill. This matters after snow or ice storms bring down limbs, because the North, South and West stations will not take them.

Rule 04

A technician's letterhead can waive the Freon appliance charge

Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and anything else containing Freon carry a per-item charge for safe Freon removal. There is no charge if a certified Freon removal technician removes it and certifies so on company letterhead with the unit's make and serial number.

Rule 05

Household chemicals have free drop-off days, but only for residents

Chautauqua County holds Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Days where residents can leave small quantities of hazardous materials used in and around the home free of charge. Businesses cannot take part, and you must bring a completed registration form listing every material.

Rule 06

Ellery takes no electronics, so plan a different county stop

The Ellery Transfer Station does not accept electronics or small appliances. The other county stations take items like computers and accessories, printers, scanners and DVD players for recycling. New York law also requires manufacturers to accept old equipment for recycling at no charge.

Generally no. Charlotte is a rural town in Chautauqua County, and curbside bulk pickup is not something every household can count on. Leaving junk on roadsides or private land you don't own can count as illegal dumping, so confirm your hauler or disposal option with the town office first.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Charlotte starts at $90, and curbside or outdoor pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge, with the exact total confirmed before booking. Traditional haulers usually price by truckload.

Same-day availability depends on crew coverage in your area, and rural spots like Charlotte Center and Sinclairville can have fewer open slots than larger cities. Enter your address during booking to see live availability and the earliest time windows for your location.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups. Leave the items out with any access notes. For items inside a home, barn, or garage, someone should be there or you can leave clear access instructions when booking. Your Loader contacts you before arriving.

Items like paint, chemicals, tires, and other hazardous materials usually can't go out with regular household trash and often need a special collection or drop-off. Farm and property cleanouts often include these, so ask about restrictions before booking.

Loaders aim to donate usable items and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance at nearby facilities. Items that can't be donated or recycled go to an appropriate disposal facility. Outcomes vary by item condition and what local partners will take.

Pick your items online, choose a time window, and see your price before you confirm. On pickup day, your Loader does the lifting and loading from wherever the items are, including garages, barns, and sheds. You won't need to move anything yourself.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King typically price by truckload and may confirm the final cost on site. LoadUp prices per item online, so the total is confirmed before booking. For big cleanouts, truckload pricing can fit better.
