The Problem

Valdese has options for junk. None quite fit.

You read the town's pickup page, call the county about drop-off rules, and request a few hauler quotes. One calls back, two never do. Weeks later, the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Town bulk pickup programs can be a real help, but they usually run on a set schedule, need a request ahead of time, and limit what qualifies. Items still have to reach the curb, and anything outside the rules stays put until you find another plan.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to see the job in person before naming a number, then price by the truckload, so you're left guessing how much of the bed your load fills. The final bill can shift on arrival, which makes it hard to plan around.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities need items they can resell, so stained upholstery, broken frames, or worn mattresses often get turned away. Even accepted pieces usually need to be dropped off by you, which means loading, hauling, and unloading heavy things on your own.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container makes sense for a full gut job, not a spare bedroom. It can tie up your driveway, and your neighbors' patience, for days, may need permission depending on where it sits, and you still carry every heavy piece out yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Valdese, along I-40 between Morganton and Hickory

Valdese is a town of hillside driveways, deep basements, and homes that have held three generations of stuff. Hauling a workbench up out of the cellar and then driving it anywhere is a lot to ask of a weekend. Your Loaders like showing up for neighbors here, carrying it out, and taking it from there.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items rarely end up in the same place, which is why where things go after pickup matters in Valdese. Your Loader sorts each load by condition, favoring donation or recycling when local options allow.

Local Disposal Rules

The Valdese disposal rules most residents don't know

A misplaced load can sit uncollected at the curb or be turned away at a county site, so these rules matter in Valdese and Burke County.

Rule 01

Liquid paint is refused but dried latex goes in trash

Burke County does not accept liquid paint or hazardous waste at its landfill. Once latex paint is completely dried out, the county treats it as regular waste. Oil-based paint, solvents, and turpentine are still household hazardous waste. Valdese carts also refuse liquids of any type.

Rule 02

Keep sticks out of leaf piles for vacuum collection

Valdese vacuums leaves from the roadside all year and picks up leaves and yard clippings weekly. The town asks residents never to mix sticks or other debris into those piles. Brush is collected separately every other week, alternating between the North and South areas of town.

Rule 03

County sites take mattresses one set at a time

Burke County's transfer station accepts mattresses and box springs for recycling as individual sets only, with no truckloads. If you are clearing out several beds at once, such as from a rental or an estate, plan around that limit.

Rule 04

Debris from hired landscapers stays with the contractor

Valdese Public Works says all debris and yard waste from work done by contractors or landscapers is theirs to remove. A hired tree trimming job should not leave a brush pile behind for town collection.

Rule 05

Corrugated cardboard is banned from North Carolina landfills by law

Burke County notes that state law requires corrugated cardboard to be recycled, so moving boxes should not go in the trash. County recycling takes corrugated cardboard only. Boxes must be flattened and cleared of debris, with no wax or plastic coating, but tape and labels can stay on.

Rule 06

Remodeling debris over one cubic yard goes to the landfill

Valdese does not allow construction debris in household carts. Burke County convenience centers do not accept building, demolition, or remodeling debris over one cubic yard. Those loads, along with shingles and roofing materials, must go to the county's C&D landfill.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Valdese starts at $75 for a single item, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. Same-day and next-day pickup are offered when availability allows. Enter your address during booking to see open times. For curbside pickups you generally don't need to be home. For in-home pickups, someone should be there or leave access instructions.

Valdese's rough trash service excludes shingles, insulation, tires, hot ashes, stumps, bricks, blocks, sheetrock and hazardous materials. Burke County's transfer station takes household hazardous waste like oil-based paint and solvents, so those need a separate trip there.

Loaders try to donate usable items to local charities and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance. Whatever can't be reused or recycled goes to a licensed disposal site. Outcomes vary by item condition and what local partners will take.

Book online, pick your item or items, and get your price confirmed before anyone arrives. On pickup day a Loader arrives in your time window, does the lifting and loading, and hauls the items away. Labor, transportation and disposal are covered in the quoted price.

Sometimes. Burke County covers its landfill, transfer station and convenience centers with an annual $92 property tax fee, so a small load you can haul yourself may cost nothing extra. Hiring a hauler pays for the lifting, truck and time.

Pricing model and booking flow. Traditional haulers often price by truckload and may confirm the cost on site. LoadUp prices per item online, so the total is confirmed before booking. Truckload pricing can suit a large cleanout better than per-item pricing.
