The Problem

Raleigh has junk options. Few of them actually work

You search for answers, call to request a pickup, and leave messages for a few haulers. One quotes vaguely, one never calls back, and two weekends later the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

City bulk pickup programs help, but they come with limits. You have to schedule ahead, follow rules on what qualifies, and get everything to the curb yourself. Some properties aren't served at all, and the date you get may not match your move-out deadline.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to come out and look before they'll give you a price, then quote by fractions of a truckload you can't really check. You often find out the final number only after the work is done, when it's too late to say no.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers have to be selective. Stained upholstery, worn mattresses, scuffed particleboard, and outdated electronics often get turned away. Even items they will take usually have to be dropped off by you, which means loading, driving, and unloading on their schedule.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container makes sense for a gut renovation, not for a spare bedroom. You may need permission to place it, it takes up the driveway for days, neighbors notice, and you're still the one hauling everything out and lifting it over the side.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Raleigh, inside and outside the Beltline

Every spring, Raleigh pollen turns your car, porch, and sinuses yellow, and that is a rough time to wrestle a dresser down the driveway. Add July humidity and it only gets worse. Your Loaders handle the lifting and carrying so you can stay inside. Showing up for Raleigh neighbors is the part your Loaders like best.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items pile up fast in a city that mixes older in-town homes with newer subdivisions, which is why where things end up matters in Raleigh. Your Loader sorts by condition, favoring reuse when local options allow.

Local Disposal Rules

The Raleigh disposal rules most residents don't know

Use the wrong bag or drop-off site and your items can be left at the curb or turned away. These rules apply in Raleigh and across Wake County.

Rule 01

Renovation debris drop-off requires the homeowner to be there

Wake County convenience centers accept construction waste only from Wake County homeowners. They turn away debris brought by renters, contractors, or businesses unless the homeowner is there at the time of disposal, so tenants with remodel scraps need another option.

Rule 02

Compostable plastic bags still leave yard waste at the curb

Raleigh no longer collects yard waste in plastic bags. That includes biodegradable or compostable plastic, which does not break down at the city's Yard Waste Center. Use paper bags instead: up to 15 per pickup, 25 pounds each, plus up to five stick bundles.

Rule 03

Corded electronics have a free curbside option in Raleigh

Raleigh residents with city garbage service can request free curbside E-waste Collection for up to four items per week. Wake County also accepts any corded electronic device, including televisions, printers, and game consoles, at its Multi-Material Recycling Facilities.

Rule 04

Scrap tires need rims removed and a form past four

Wake County takes scrap tires at its Multi-Material Recycling Facilities, not at convenience centers. Only passenger vehicle tires are accepted, and the rims must be removed. If you bring five or more tires, you need a completed North Carolina Scrap Tire Certification Form.

Rule 05

Curbside furniture pickup now carries a per-load fee

As of April 1, 2026, each Raleigh Bulky Load Collection costs $35, added to your next utility bill. One load is four cubic yards, about two couches or three queen-sized mattresses. Items must sit five feet from mailboxes, light poles, and cars.

Rule 06

Refrigerators and A/C units skip the convenience centers

Wake County convenience centers do not take white goods or appliances that contain refrigerant. Take refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, washers, dryers, and water heaters to a Multi-Material Recycling Facility, or book Raleigh's Special Load Collection, which costs $70.

Only items the city's Solid Waste Services program accepts, on your scheduled collection day. Piles of junk left curbside outside those rules can be treated as illegal dumping and may bring a fine. Check with the City of Raleigh for current bulky item rules.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Raleigh starts at $75, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before booking.

Often, depending on Loader availability for your address and the time you book. Enter your Raleigh zip code during booking to see the live same-day and next-day options. Scheduling is online, and you pick the time window that fits.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups. Leave the items outside and add access notes at booking. For items inside a home, apartment, or garage, someone should be there, or you can leave clear access instructions with your booking.

Hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals, and batteries generally can't go in regular curbside trash. Wake County runs household hazardous waste drop-off sites for these. Large or mixed loads of debris are also often outside curbside limits, so confirm rules with the city first.

Loaders aim to donate usable items to local charities, recycle what accepted facilities will take, and avoid landfill whenever options allow. Outcomes depend on item condition and what donation and recycling centers accept, so nothing is guaranteed.

Pick your items online, see the price, and choose a time window. On pickup day, a Loader typically calls or texts before arriving, then removes the items and loads them. You confirm the total before booking, so there are no surprises when the truck arrives.

The pricing model is the main difference. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King commonly price by truck volume and may confirm the price on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For large cleanouts, a truckload hauler can fit better.
