The Problem

Getting junk out of a Morehead City home takes work

You search online, call the town about bulk pickup, then request a few hauler quotes. One calls back, one wants to visit first, one never answers. Two weekends later, the junk is still in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Municipal pickup schedules can clear plenty, but they come with rules on what qualifies, how much you can set out, and when to request it. Some items get turned down, and everything has to reach the curb before your scheduled pickup day.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to come out and look before they'll give you a number, then price by a fraction of a truckload you can't easily judge. The figure you hear on the phone can change once the crew starts loading.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Local thrift and charity shops need things they can actually resell, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken furniture often get turned away. You might also have to do the drop-off yourself, and whatever they refuse still needs somewhere to go.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off sits in your driveway for days, may need permission from the town or your HOA, and leaves you doing all the lifting yourself. For one room of junk, that's a lot of steel, scheduling, and side-eye from the neighbors.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

The Morehead City disposal rules most residents don't know

Skip the preparation rules and curbside items can sit uncollected as a neighborhood eyesore. Here is how disposal works in Morehead City and across Carteret County.

Rule 01

Spring Clean is the city's yearly bulky item window

Each April, Morehead City and GFL run a weeklong Spring Clean for residents on roll-out cart service. Furniture, bedding, carpet, boxes, clothing and household items go to the street edge the night before your regular trash day. Yard debris is excluded.

Rule 02

Hurricane vegetative debris has followed different rules than trash

After Hurricane Florence, Carteret County convenience centers did not accept vegetative debris while NCDOT cleared storm debris from state-maintained road rights of way. The county asked residents to place debris where it would not block roadways or visibility.

Rule 03

The in-town convenience site does not take appliances

The county convenience site in Morehead City takes household trash and bulk items but not white goods, so washing machines and refrigerators need a county site that receives them. During Spring Clean, the city collects white goods separately on Friday.

Rule 04

Convenience sites take only small do-it-yourself remodeling debris

Carteret County convenience sites accept construction material only when it comes solely from remodeling or repairs tied to normal home maintenance or do-it-yourself jobs. Oversized trailers are sent to the CEP Transfer Station, and the Morehead City site offers no C&D service.

Rule 05

Paint must be fully dried before it goes curbside

Spring Clean accepts paint only when it is 100% dried, and it rejects paint thinners and pesticides. No county convenience site takes hazardous waste, but a twice-yearly household hazardous waste event held by the Coastal Environmental Partnership and Carteret County accepts some of these items.

Rule 06

TVs and computers are left out of curbside cleanups

Spring Clean excludes TVs and computers. The city instead points residents to the county's Hibbs Road Convenience Site, which recycles cell phones, copiers, desktop computers, fax machines, ink cartridges, laptops, printers, scanners, telephones and televisions.

Not unless it fits your regular collection rules. Bulk pickup days can differ across Carteret County, so confirm with Morehead City public works before setting anything out. Items left out without a scheduled pickup can be treated as illegal dumping.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Morehead City starts at $75, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on charge, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Often, yes. Same-day or next-day pickup is typically available when you book before 2PM, depending on the schedule. Enter your address at booking to see live availability. For curbside pickups you generally don't need to be home.

Carteret County runs the Newport Transfer Station at 800 Hibbs Rd, which takes construction and demolition debris for a tipping fee. Most county sites also accept scrap metal and white goods. Chemicals and pesticides go to the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill. Depending on acceptance, they try to donate furniture and household goods to local charities and recycle metal and other materials whenever possible. Items that can't be donated or recycled go to the proper disposal facility.

You book online, pick your items, and see the price before confirming. On pickup day your Loader typically calls or texts ahead of arrival, then carries the items out and loads them. You don't have to move anything to the curb unless you choose the curbside discount.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like College HUNKS and 1-800-GOT-JUNK usually price by truckload and often confirm after an estimate. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For big cleanouts, a truckload hauler can fit better.
