Storm-downed limbs, leaves, and grass clippings are not accepted at the Harmony Convenience Site. Other county sites take brush free when limbs are under 8 inches thick and 8 feet long, with no stumps. A planned replacement center in Harmony lists yard waste as allowed.
Iredell County does not take burnt wood, burnt trash, or ashes at its convenience sites. After a house or shed fire, that debris can go only to the county landfill, and only with an approved fire report.
Furniture, clothing, toys, and kitchen waste count as household waste in Iredell County, free for residents who have paid the Solid Waste Availability Fee. A county decal must be displayed to use the sites, and the state permit bars waste generated outside the county.
The Harmony site takes wood, windows, vinyl siding, sheetrock, insulation, paneling, cabinets, carpeting, and flooring from remodeling jobs. Concrete, asphalt, brick, block, dirt, shingles, gravel, and rocks are refused there, and large loads are redirected to the Twin Oaks facility.
Iredell County recycles scrap metal free at every solid waste site, including bicycles, grills, metal lawn furniture, storm doors, and lawn mowers without gas tanks. Removing the tank from a dead mower turns it into accepted scrap metal.
