The Problem

Getting rid of junk in Washington takes longer than it should

You check the city website, call about a pickup, ask a few haulers for quotes, and wait on callbacks that never come. Meanwhile, the garage stays full and another weekend goes by.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Municipal pickup schedules work well for a single bulky piece set out on the right day. They often limit what qualifies, though, and may leave out items like refrigerant appliances or remodeling debris. You still have to drag everything out yourself and then wait for the next pickup date.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to come out and look before they'll give you a number. Then they quote by fractions of a truck, so you can't tell what a quarter load means for a basement of old boxes and a broken recliner. You only find out the real cost after they're already there.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities have to be choosy. Stained mattresses, worn couches, and outdated electronics often get turned away, and you're the one loading and driving them. Donation works for the good stuff, but it leaves you with everything else.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container is built for a full tear-out, not one cluttered spare room. You have to schedule the drop-off and maybe check placement rules for your street. It can chew up the driveway or annoy the neighbors for days, and you still do all the lifting.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The Washington disposal rules most residents don't know

A couch set out on the wrong week or a refrigerator sent toward the landfill can get left behind. These are the rules that apply in Washington, Franklin County.

Rule 01

Whole tires stay out of landfills, but retailers take them back

Missouri bans whole waste tires from landfills because discarded tires collect rainwater that breeds mosquitoes and can create fire hazards. State law also requires tire retailers to accept used tires from customers, up to the number of tires purchased.

Rule 02

One bulky item rides along with your recycling week

Starting September 1, 2026, each Washington residence may set one bulky item at the curb during its scheduled recycling week. Additional items can be collected for $25.00 each, but they must be scheduled and paid for with Waste Connections at least 24 hours ahead.

Rule 03

Storm limbs and fall leaves need a separate path

State law bars yard waste from Missouri landfills, so branches from spring storms and bagged autumn leaves cannot simply go in with household trash. Washington offers curbside yard waste pickup and operates a Compost/Recycling Center that keeps this material out of the landfill.

Rule 04

Old car and mower batteries go back to the seller

Lead-acid batteries from cars, trucks, boats and riding mowers are banned from Missouri landfills. Retailers that sell these batteries are required by state law to accept used ones from customers, which keeps lead and sulfuric acid out of the waste stream.

Rule 05

Highway 47 splits the city into two recycling sections

Starting September 1, 2026, trash is collected every Tuesday citywide, and recycling alternates weekly between Section A west of Highway 47 and Section B east of it. Carts should be curbside by 5:30 a.m., with space between totes and nothing parked blocking them.

Rule 06

Refrigerators, water heaters and washers are banned from Missouri landfills

Missouri law keeps major appliances out of landfills, including refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, water heaters, washers, dryers, dishwashers and stoves. Units that contain refrigerant also fall under federal rules requiring the refrigerant to be recovered before the appliance is scrapped.

Not unless it falls under your trash hauler's or the city's regular collection rules. Bulk items left out without a scheduled pickup can be treated as illegal dumping. Check with the City of Washington or your hauler for size limits and any bulk item fees.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Washington starts at $75, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before booking.

Sometimes. Same-day slots depend on Loader availability near Washington and on when you book. Enter your address during booking to see which times are open. If same-day is full, next-day or later slots are usually shown.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups. You can leave items outside with access notes. For items inside your home, someone should be there, or you can give access instructions when booking. Your Loader will let you know before arriving.

Hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals, and batteries usually can't go in household trash or a bulk pickup. Many Missouri counties run separate household hazardous waste drop-offs, so call the city or Franklin County to confirm what is accepted and when.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill by donating them to local charities when options allow. They try to recycle materials like metal and cardboard whenever possible. Acceptance varies, so items that can't be donated or recycled go to an approved disposal facility.

You pick your items and a time window online, and see your price upfront. On pickup day, your Loader arrives, confirms the items, and carries them out and loads them. You don't need to move anything to the truck yourself, and the total matches what you were quoted.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King commonly price by truck volume and may confirm the final price on site. LoadUp prices per item online, so the quote is set before booking. For large cleanouts, a truckload hauler can be a better fit.
