The Problem

Getting rid of junk here takes more than a phone call

You look up what the city will haul, call a few numbers, and wait on callbacks that never come. One hauler wants to stop by first. Another weekend slips past, and the junk still sits right where it was.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Small cities like this one often offer bulk pickup only now and then, sometimes just as a seasonal cleanup event. You usually have to check the rules first, wait for the right date, and still carry everything to the curb on your own.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

A lot of haulers want to come out and look before they give you a number. Then the price depends on how much of the truck your junk fills, and you often don't know the real total until the job is half done.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers have good reason to turn down worn, stained, or broken pieces, and some may not be close by. Even if they take a few things, you still have to load them and drive them over, and whatever they reject stays with you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A dumpster can take up your driveway or yard for days, and you may need to check local rules before it arrives. You also do all the lifting yourself. For one room or a garage corner, that's a lot of hassle for a small job.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Curbside works well when the worn-out recliner or broken porch swing is already sitting in your driveway or next to the shed, so your Loader can grab it from outside. If the junk is in a basement or a back bedroom, choose full-service and your Loader will carry it out from inside.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Charleston, from I-57 to the Mississippi River

Out here, getting rid of an old sofa usually means borrowing a truck and creeping down flat country roads behind a combine. Nobody needs that. Your Loader shows up, does the lifting and loading, and gets your junk gone, because Charleston looks out for its own, and your Loaders like showing up for neighbors.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Big, bulky junk is hard to move alone, so where it ends up matters in Charleston. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, sending what can be reused toward donation and the rest toward recycling or disposal.

Local Disposal Rules

The Charleston disposal rules most residents don't know

Piling scrap outdoors or burning the wrong materials can bring a nuisance complaint or city ordinance ticket. These rules apply in Charleston and Mississippi County.

Rule 01

Missouri landfills have refused yard waste since 1992

State law bars leaves, grass clippings, brush and even Christmas trees from Missouri landfills, and Charleston's cleanup dumpsters reject limbs and shrub trimmings too. Inside city limits, only leaves may be burned during seasonal clean-up, at least 50 feet from any structure.

Rule 02

Spring Clean-Up dumpsters replace curbside pickup for one week

Each spring the City of Charleston and Republic Services set out Spring Clean-Up dumpsters behind City Hall, which ran March 21 through 29 in 2026. Furniture, mattresses, rugs, bedding, toys and books are accepted, but there is no curbside pickup during the event.

Rule 03

Scrap metal and lumber piled outdoors is a public nuisance

Charleston's code declares stored junk, old metal, scrap lumber and scrap machinery on private property a public nuisance when it harms neighborhood health or aesthetics. Anyone can file a complaint, and the municipal court may order the City Manager to abate it.

Rule 04

Anything with a motor is banned from the cleanup dumpsters

Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, dishwashers, trash compactors and water heaters cannot go in Charleston's Spring Clean-Up dumpsters. Microwaves and televisions are the exception and are accepted. Missouri also bans major appliances from landfills, so these need a separate recycling route.

Rule 05

Demolition debris cannot be burned on your property

Missouri's open burning rules prohibit burning any waste from a business, trade or demolition operation unless it is untreated or vegetative wood. Charleston's code also requires solid waste to go to a facility that meets Missouri Department of Natural Resources requirements.

Rule 06

Tires, paint and computer monitors stay out of the trash

Republic Services will not pick up paint, chemicals, computer monitors, vehicle parts, tires or lead acid batteries in Charleston. The city notes these materials are banned from Missouri landfills, so each one needs its own disposal or recycling outlet.

Not unless it is part of your regular trash service. Bulk junk set out with no pickup arranged can count as illegal dumping or a nuisance violation. Call Charleston City Hall to confirm what your trash service takes and how large items are handled.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Charleston starts at $75 for a single item, and curbside or outdoor pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on charge, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Sometimes. Same-day and next-day slots depend on Loader availability in the Mississippi County area, so small towns can have fewer openings than big cities. Enter your address when booking to see live times. For curbside pickups you generally don't need to be home.

Hazardous items usually can't go in household trash or a standard haul. That includes paint, chemicals, auto fluids, and batteries. Large construction debris and tires also often need special handling. Check with the city or county before disposing of these items.

Loaders try to donate usable items and recycle materials whenever options allow, depending on what local charities and recyclers will accept. Items that can't be reused or recycled go to an appropriate disposal facility. Outcomes vary by item and condition.

You book online, pick your item and a time window, and see your price before confirming. On pickup day your Loader arrives in that window, hauls the item away, and loads it. Curbside items can be left out with access notes if you won't be home.

The main difference is pricing and booking. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King typically price by truckload and often confirm cost on site. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total confirmed before booking. For a full-house cleanout, a truckload hauler can fit better.

It depends on the job. A rented dumpster can cost less for a big renovation or whole-property cleanout where you do the loading yourself. For a few bulky items, a hauler is usually simpler because Loaders do the lifting and disposal for you.
