The Problem

Clearing out a Charlotte Hall property takes more than a truck

You look up county drop-off hours, call a hauler or two, and wait on estimates that never come back. Meanwhile the junk keeps sitting in the shed or garage, and another weekend slips by.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Charlotte Hall has no town-run bulk pickup. County drop-off sites and private trash services may help, but they come with their own schedules, item limits and exclusions. You may also still need to load bulky pieces and haul them yourself, which is hard without a second set of hands.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to come out and look first, so you lose time just getting a number. Then the price depends on how much of the truck your stuff fills, and that is hard to guess ahead of time. You may not know the real total until they are already loading.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers have to be selective. Stained upholstery, broken frames, worn appliances and anything that won't resell usually gets turned away. Even the items they do accept often have to be dropped off by you, and the stuff they refuse is still yours to get rid of.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container can make sense for a full teardown. For one room, an attic or a cluttered outbuilding, it means booking delivery and pickup windows, finding flat ground that won't rut your driveway, and still lifting every heavy item over a high wall yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Charlotte Hall, from Route 5 to the back roads

Out here, everything is a drive, and a dump run means wrestling a load onto the truck bed, bumping down a long driveway, and giving up half a Saturday. Your Loader can do the lifting, carrying and loading instead. LoadUp and your Loaders genuinely like showing up for neighbors who look out for each other.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Bulky items in Charlotte Hall rarely have an obvious next stop, so where they end up matters. Your Loader sorts each load by condition, favoring donation or recycling when local options allow, before anything is disposed of.

Local Disposal Rules

The Charlotte Hall disposal rules most residents don't know

In Charlotte Hall and across St. Mary's County, vehicles without a Residential Disposal Permit Sticker are turned away at county disposal sites, and these rules decide where everything else goes.

Rule 01

Storm-felled stumps must be split below 12 inches

After Southern Maryland storms, St. Andrews Landfill takes stumps, logs, and limbs only if the trunk is no wider than 12 inches or is split to that size, and only without heavy soil on the roots. Larger stumps need a land clearing facility.

Rule 02

Console and projection TVs cannot be recycled locally

The St. Mary's County electronics recycling program can't currently take console televisions or projection TVs. Residents are told to put these sets in the solid waste compactors at a county convenience center rather than in the electronics recycling area.

Rule 03

Contractor demolition debris is off limits at county sites

St. Andrews Landfill does not accept commercial construction and demolition debris, and convenience center compactors refuse all construction debris and contractor waste. Clean concrete, brick, block, and asphalt can be recycled at the landfill as masonry products.

Rule 04

Only five free tires per trip at the landfill

St. Mary's County residents can bring up to five passenger car or light truck tires per trip to the tire recycling area at St. Andrews Landfill at no charge. Larger loads and oversized tires are charged a fee by the ton.

Rule 05

Furniture is banned from convenience center trash compactors

The compactors at the six county convenience centers can't accept furniture. The same goes for liquid waste, burned materials, and animal carcasses. Couches, tables, and other furniture from a Charlotte Hall cleanout have to go to St. Andrews Landfill instead.

Rule 06

Latex paint is turned away on hazardous waste day

The county's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day takes alkyd (oil-based) paint, solvents, pool chemicals, and pesticides, but not latex paint. Once latex paint is fully hardened with a paint hardener, it can go to any convenience center or the landfill.

Not as a free pickup. Charlotte Hall is unincorporated, so county rules apply, and bulky junk set out beyond regular trash service can be treated as illegal dumping. Check with St. Mary's County Public Works for current bulk rules before setting anything out.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Charlotte Hall starts at $85, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before booking.

Sometimes, depending on Loader availability near Route 5 and the rural parts of northern St. Mary's County. Enter your address during booking to see open times. For curbside pickups you generally don't need to be home, but indoor jobs need access arranged.

The county runs a Charlotte Hall Convenience Center for resident drop-off, and it reopened on December 31, 2025 after a closure. Rules on accepted materials, hours and fees can change, so confirm with St. Mary's County Public Works first. Hauling it yourself is cheaper if you have a truck.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill by donating them to local charities when options allow. They try to recycle metal, cardboard and other materials whenever possible. Anything that can't be donated or recycled is taken to a proper disposal facility, depending on acceptance.

You select your items and address online, see the total upfront, and pick a time window. On pickup day your Loader gives notice before arriving, then removes the items and hauls them away. The price you were quoted at booking is the price you pay.

The pricing model differs. Traditional haulers usually charge by truck volume and often confirm the price on site. LoadUp prices per item online, with the first item including the base fee and each extra item a flat add-on, so the total is set before anyone arrives.

Yes, Loaders can pick up household junk from rural homes, barns, sheds and driveways around Charlotte Hall, as long as the items are safe to move. Hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals and fuel are generally not accepted, so use county hazardous waste options for those.
