The Problem

Wayland has options for junk. Few of them fit.

You look up town rules, call around for quotes, and wait on callbacks that sometimes never come. One hauler wants to see it first, another goes quiet. Weeks later, the junk is still in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Town disposal options can work well for small, sorted loads. They usually come with rules about what's accepted, when, and how. Many also depend on you getting heavy items there yourself, which means lifting them out of the basement and finding a vehicle big enough to carry them.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to walk through your home before giving a number, then quote by how much of the truck you'll fill. That estimate can change once loading starts. So you book a visit, rearrange your day, and still don't know what the final bill will be.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers want items in good, sellable shape, and many turn away stained upholstery, scratched dressers, or anything missing parts. Most expect you to drop items off, too. An exercise bike that still works might be accepted. A broken recliner won't be, and it stays with you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A dumpster makes sense for a gut renovation, not one emptied spare room. You coordinate drop-off and pickup windows, may need permission if it can't sit on your property, and live with a steel container in the driveway for days. Meanwhile, you still do all the lifting yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The Wayland disposal rules most residents don't know

Arrive at the Wayland Transfer Station with the wrong vehicle, bags, or load and you can be turned away. These rules apply to Wayland residents in Middlesex County.

Rule 01

Mattresses and box springs cannot go in Massachusetts trash

Massachusetts banned mattresses from disposal in November 2022 so their materials can be recycled. Wayland's Transfer Station accepts mattresses and box springs from residents as a specialty item. They are handled separately from regular household trash.

Rule 02

The Give and Take area only takes items in good shape

You can bring usable household goods to the Transfer Station's Give and Take area instead of paying to throw them out. Items must be in good to excellent condition. Broken items, electronics, and wood are not allowed there.

Rule 03

Rental trucks and trailers are not allowed at the gate

Only Wayland residents can use the Transfer Station, and every vehicle needs a valid Transfer Station sticker. Rental trucks and trailers are not permitted, and business or commercial items are not accepted. A rented box truck full of cleanout debris will be refused.

Rule 04

Fridge cleanouts can go to compost, including meat and dairy

The Transfer Station's composting program takes food scraps that many backyard bins cannot, including meat, poultry, seafood, bones, and dairy products. Keep out paper plates, napkins, plastic coated or takeout containers, cardboard, liquids, and grease or cooking oil.

Rule 05

Anything too big for an orange bag carries a bulky fee

Wayland defines bulky waste as non-recyclable items too large to fit in a Pay-As-You-Throw bag. Couches, stuffed chairs, and similar pieces are charged a bulky waste fee based on volume. You pay it at the Transfer Station when you drop them off.

Rule 06

Loose trash is refused without Wayland's orange PAYT bags

Household trash at the Transfer Station has to be in orange Town of Wayland Pay-As-You-Throw bags. You can carry filled bags in a barrel, but loose trash dumped into a barrel or bin will not be accepted. The bags come in three sizes.

No, Wayland has no town curbside trash service. Residents use the Transfer Station at 484 Boston Post Road, open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with a vehicle sticker. Leaving junk at the curb or on conservation land can count as illegal dumping.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Wayland starts at $105 for a single item, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Often yes, if you have a truck and the time. The FY2026 sticker is $200 a year, or $50 for a one-trip disposal, and bulky items carry separate fees. It's Wayland residents only, so hauling and lifting yourself is the tradeoff.

Same-day or next-day pickup is generally offered in Wayland when you book before noon, depending on availability. For curbside or driveway pickups you usually don't need to be home. For indoor pickups, someone should be there or leave access instructions.

Wayland requires household trash to go in special town trash bags at the Transfer Station. Bulky waste, mattresses, box springs, tires and electronics are accepted as specialty items, and some carry extra fees. Call (508) 889-3037 to confirm current rules.

Loaders aim to donate usable items and recycle what they can, depending on acceptance. Anything that can't be reused or recycled goes to an appropriate disposal facility. Outcomes vary by item condition, so nothing is guaranteed to be donated or recycled.

The main difference is the pricing model. Many traditional haulers price by truck volume and may confirm the total on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms your total before booking, which can suit smaller jobs. Large cleanouts may be a better fit for truckload pricing.
