The Problem

Halifax has options for junk. None of them fit.

You check the town website, call a hauler or two, and wait on callbacks that never come. Someone quotes a range so wide it means nothing. Meanwhile, the pile in the garage hasn't moved since spring.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

In a small town like this, free disposal often means loading it yourself, following resident rules, and working around set schedules. Mattresses, electronics, and appliances carry Massachusetts disposal restrictions, and none of it helps when the heavy stuff is still stuck in your basement.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to walk your property before they quote, which means another appointment on a weekday. Then pricing is pegged to a fraction of a truck, judged by eye, so the number you hear first may not match the final bill.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities need items they can resell, so stained upholstery, scuffed particleboard, and older appliances often get turned away. Even good pieces mean loading your own car and driving out of town, and whatever they refuse comes right back home with you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off for a single shed or spare room cleanout means booking delivery, possibly checking permit rules, and giving up part of your driveway for days. On a narrow wooded road, a steel box out front is rarely anyone's favorite view.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Halifax, from Route 106 to the end of every side road

Halifax homes tend to sit on wooded lots with long driveways, and plenty began as summer cottages, so a cleanout rarely fits in one trip with a borrowed pickup. Your Loaders handle the carrying, loading, and tight turns, and they genuinely enjoy showing up for neighbors who'd rather spend the weekend outside.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Halifax homes tend to hold bulky things like old sofas, basement appliances, and shed leftovers, so where they end up matters. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, aiming to keep what they can out of landfills.

Donation Pickup

When possible, furniture and household goods in good, clean condition are set aside by your Loader for donation. Whether that works depends on what local donation channels are accepting at the time.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Visible Wear

Recycling

Items that are worn or damaged but not donatable, such as metal-framed furniture or small appliances, may be recycled where available. Your Loader separates them from the load when local options allow.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Local Disposal Rules

The Halifax disposal rules most residents don't know

Bagged trash left on the ground stays at the curb, and a vehicle without a sticker can't use the drop-off center under these Halifax, Plymouth County rules.

Rule 01

Dried-out latex paint can go in the regular trash

Halifax treats latex paint as messy but not hazardous. Paint that can't be recycled can be soaked up with cat litter and put in the trash. Usable leftover latex paint can be recycled into new paint at Recolor Paints in Hanover for a small fee.

Rule 02

Overflow trash bags must sit on top of the closed tote

Halifax curbside trash goes in a 64-gallon tote, and the lid must be fully closed. Extra trash must go in Town imprinted bags sold at the Recycle Center and placed on top of the closed tote. Bags left on the ground will not be collected.

Rule 03

Mattresses and old clothing are banned from Massachusetts trash

Since November 2022, MassDEP has banned mattresses and textiles from disposal, so they can't go out with regular Halifax trash. Even worn or stained clothing, linens, and towels count as textiles and should be donated or recycled instead.

Rule 04

Propane tanks and auto batteries have a year-round drop-off

The Recycling Center takes propane tanks, motor oil, antifreeze, mercury or materials containing mercury, and auto and rechargeable batteries year-round with a valid sticker. Other household chemicals have to wait for the town hazardous waste collection event and must be in their original labeled, sealed containers.

Rule 05

Moving boxes must be flattened and never bagged for curbside

Halifax single-stream recycling accepts cardboard but asks that boxes be flattened. Recycling set out in trash bags will not be picked up. For a large amount, residents can put a Single Stream sticker from the Recycle Center on their own barrel.

Rule 06

Recycling Center drop-offs need a sticker and winter flexibility

You need a current-year sticker to use the center. It is sold to Halifax residents only for $75 per vehicle, or included with curbside trash enrollment. The center keeps limited weekly hours, and snow removal can close it and move openings to another day.

Not unless it fits your regular trash service rules. Halifax residents should confirm bulky item rules with the town before setting anything out. Leaving unapproved items at the roadside can count as illegal dumping in Massachusetts and may lead to a fine.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Halifax starts at $105 for a single item, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Sometimes, depending on Loader availability for your address. Enter your address when booking to see the open time slots, which can include same-day or next-day. Curbside jobs don't require anyone to be home if you leave access notes.

Yes. Massachusetts bans some materials from regular trash, and haulers like WIN Waste no longer accept mattresses or textiles, even with a bulk pickup. Large or restricted loads often need a separate drop-off or a hauler, so check with Halifax before putting them out.

Loaders try to keep usable items out of the landfill by donating them to local charities when options allow. They also recycle what they can, such as metal. Acceptance varies by item and condition, so outcomes aren't guaranteed, and the rest goes to an appropriate disposal facility.

Book online, choose your item and pickup time, and see the total before you confirm. On pickup day, your Loader arrives in the scheduled window, removes the junk from the home, driveway, or curb, and handles loading and hauling. Lakeside and wooded Halifax driveways are fine if the path is clear.

The main difference is how pricing is set. College HUNKS offers free estimates, and traditional haulers usually price by truckload. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For a large cleanout, a truckload hauler may fit better.
