The Problem

Getting junk out of Algiers is harder than it looks

You read the city's bulk rules, call a couple of haulers, and wait on quotes that never come. Somebody promises a callback. Another weekend goes by, and the junk is still sitting right where you left it.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

City bulk pickup programs can be a real help, but they come with item limits and a schedule you don't control. Pickup rules have changed over the years, and you still have to drag everything to the street yourself, which is no small job from a raised Algiers Point cottage.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many old-school haulers want to come look before they'll give you a number, then charge by how much of the truck you fill. You don't know the final total until the job is half done, and the price can shift once they get a look at the stairs.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers want items in good shape, and that's fair. Furniture with water damage after a heavy storm, worn mattresses, and older appliances usually get turned away. Even items they will take still have to be loaded up and driven over by you.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A dumpster makes sense for a full gut renovation, not a garage cleanout in Fischer or Tall Timbers. You're juggling delivery and pickup dates, maybe a permit for street placement, a big metal box blocking your driveway, and you still do all the lifting yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Algiers and the West Bank side of the Mississippi

In Algiers, a ruined sofa on the porch doesn't last long in August humidity, and hurricane season has taught everyone how fast a garage fills up. Pick a time, and your Loader handles the lifting and loading. Your neighbors in Behrman and Old Aurora deserve some relief, and your Loaders like showing up for it.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Big, bulky items are hard to deal with alone, and in Algiers where you send them matters as much as getting them out. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, favoring donation or recycling when local options allow.

Local Disposal Rules

The Algiers disposal rules most residents don't know

Setting a sofa out too early can get you fined, and the City enforces against debris dumped on neutral grounds. These rules apply in Algiers and across Orleans Parish.

Rule 01

After major storms, debris is collected in separate streams

After Hurricane Ida, New Orleans collected storm debris separately from regular trash in four streams: vegetative, construction, white goods, and electronics. Dumping debris on neutral grounds or in vacant or blighted lots is illegal, and the City enforces it.

Rule 02

Old Mardi Gras beads have a recycling drop-off

Beads saved from years of parades don't have to go to the landfill. The City's Recycling Drop-Off Center on the East Bank takes Mardi Gras beads on Saturdays. It is open only to Orleans Parish residents, and businesses and organizations can't use it.

Rule 03

Carpet must be cut under four feet before pickup

Carpet counts as bulky waste only when it is rolled, tied, and cut into pieces shorter than four feet. If you cut water-damaged or worn carpet down to that size before asking for pickup through 311, the City's bulky collection will take it.

Rule 04

Paint and pool chemicals wait for one yearly collection day

Paint, pool shock, antifreeze, motor oil, and other household hazardous items should never go in garbage or curbside recycling carts. New Orleans takes them at a yearly collection day for residents. Afterward, there is a week when residents can pick up usable leftover paint.

Rule 05

Sofas and mattresses go out within 24 hours of pickup

To get rid of sofas, mattresses, and appliances, you have to request bulky pickup through 311. If you put them at the curb more than 24 hours before your scheduled collection day, you can be fined. Only properties with four units or fewer can use this service.

Rule 06

Construction and demolition materials head to fee-based landfills

Construction and demolition materials are not on the City's bulky waste list. Two area landfills take C&D materials and large amounts of vegetation for a fee. One is Gentilly Landfill, which accepts construction and demolition debris plus vegetative and woody material.

Only for bulky items you've requested through 311, and only within 24 hours of your scheduled collection day. Putting bulky waste out earlier can bring a fine. Small businesses aren't eligible for city bulky pickup and must hire a private vendor.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Algiers starts at $80, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking. The city's 311 bulky pickup costs residents nothing extra.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups. You can leave items out and add access notes when you book. For items inside your home, someone should be there or you can leave entry instructions. Availability varies by day, so enter your address during booking to see open times.

Household hazardous waste such as paint, solvents and pesticides can't go in your trash cart. Orleans Parish offers an annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day for residents only, not businesses. Bulky waste like sofas, appliances and carpet needs a 311 request.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill by donating them to local charities when options allow. Recyclable materials go to recycling facilities depending on acceptance. Whatever can't be donated or recycled is taken to an appropriate disposal facility.

You enter your items online, see a price before you commit, and pick an arrival window. Your Loader typically calls or texts before arriving, then removes the items and hauls them away. You can also text a photo of your items to get pricing.

For a few large items and you can wait for your scheduled day, 311 bulky pickup is often the better free choice. It covers sofas, mattresses, appliances, carpet, up to 6 bags of yard waste, 6 tree branch bundles and 4 tires. A private service fits better if you need a specific time or indoor removal.

Pricing model and booking flow. Traditional haulers usually price by truckload and often confirm the price at an on-site estimate. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total confirmed before booking. For small jobs that can mean a lower and more predictable price.
