The Problem

Getting junk out of Sun Valley takes more than it should

You search for options, call around about pickup rules, and request a few hauler quotes. One calls back, one wants a site visit, and one never answers. Weeks later, the junk is still in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Municipal pickup schedules can be a good deal if your items qualify and your timing lines up. Most programs come with fixed dates, set limits, and exclusions for things like appliances or construction debris. Set-out rules can also be tricky at condos and HOA-managed properties.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to see the load in person before they'll give you a number, then price it by how much of the truck it fills. That's hard to judge ahead of time, so the final total can change once everything is loaded.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities have good reasons for turning things down. Stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken appliances usually won't get past the door. Someone also has to load the items, drive them over, and haul back whatever gets rejected.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container makes sense for a full gut renovation, not for clearing out one room. You may need a permit and a delivery window, and it could sit in the driveway for days. You'd still be lifting every heavy piece into it yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The Sun Valley disposal rules most residents don't know

Bringing a mixed load to Ohio Gulch can mean paying trash rates on material that had a separate outlet, so these rules matter in Sun Valley and Blaine County.

Rule 01

Swapped-out snow tires have a dedicated drop at Ohio Gulch

In a valley where winter tires are routine, old sets pile up fast. The Ohio Gulch Transfer Station accepts passenger vehicle tires and truck tires. Semi-truck and implement tires are taken only at the transfer station itself.

Rule 02

Usable building materials and large items have a reuse option

Blaine County directs large items to The Building Material Thrift, a local nonprofit that reclaims and reuses building materials and household goods. Its donation drop-off at Ohio Gulch is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Rule 03

Grass clippings now cost the same as trash at the transfer station

The Southern Idaho Solid Waste transfer station at Ohio Gulch revised its pilot program, so grass clippings and leafy yard waste are now charged the standard mixed municipal solid waste fee. Winn's Compost, also located at Ohio Gulch, offers composting and yard waste disposal.

Rule 04

Blaine County treats anything with a cord as electronics

The Blaine County Recycle Center accepts electronics, which it defines as anything with a cord. That covers more than many residents expect. The center uses multi-stream recycling, so electronics and every other material must be sorted into their own bins.

Rule 05

Extra trash carts in Sun Valley come at no charge

Clear Creek Disposal handles Sun Valley's residential trash and recycling under a city franchise. Homes get a 95-gallon cart by default, and 32- or 68-gallon sizes are available on request. Additional carts are free, which helps when a cleanout creates overflow.

Rule 06

Leftover snowblower gas and fuel oil are hazardous waste

Blaine County directs that all fuels and fuel oils be disposed of as hazardous waste. That includes gasoline and fuel oil left over from winter equipment. Both can go to the Blaine County Recycle Center or the Ohio Gulch Transfer Station.

Not as a general rule. Curbside pickup of large items usually depends on your trash hauler's rules, and unscheduled piles left outside can be treated as illegal dumping. Check with your hauler or the City of Sun Valley before setting anything out.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Sun Valley starts at $80 for a single item, and curbside or outdoor pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before booking.

Sometimes, depending on Loader availability in the Wood River Valley that day. Enter your address during booking to see the live time slots for Sun Valley Village, Elkhorn, and nearby areas. Next-day and later slots are usually easier to find.

Hazardous materials such as paint, solvents, chemicals, and propane aren't accepted by most haulers, and large or heavy items often need special handling. Hazardous waste usually has to go to a designated local collection site, so ask your waste provider or Blaine County about the rules.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill. When options allow, they try to donate furniture and household goods to local charities or thrift stores and recycle materials like metal or e-waste. Donation and recycling depend on acceptance, and anything that can't be placed goes to an appropriate disposal facility.

Not for curbside or outdoor pickups. You can leave items out with access notes. For items inside a home, condo, or vacation rental, someone should be present, or you can give access instructions when you book. Many Sun Valley properties have gate or lodge rules, so mention them.

The main differences are pricing and booking. Traditional haulers usually charge by truckload and may confirm a price on site. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total confirmed before booking. For a large cleanout, a truckload hauler can still be a good fit.
