The Problem

Getting rid of junk in Star takes more than it should

You start by checking the hauler's bulk rules, then call around for quotes. One company wants to come look first, another never calls back. Weeks go by, and the junk is still in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

City bulk pickup programs can work well for a single couch or a few bags. They usually come with item limits, advance requests, and set schedules, though, and they often skip renovation debris, heavy appliances, or a full shop cleanout. You also still have to drag everything to the curb yourself.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Lots of haulers want to come out and see the job before they'll quote it, and that can cost you a morning off from your Boise or Meridian commute. Then the price is based on a vague fraction of a truck, so you won't know the real total until the truck is loaded.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and donation centers have to be choosy about what they take. Stained upholstery, worn mattresses, scuffed particleboard, and anything missing parts usually get turned away. That leaves you hauling the rejects back home, and you still need some other way to get rid of them.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off dumpster makes sense for a big teardown, but most cleanouts are a lot smaller than that. You have to book the drop-off and pickup dates, maybe check HOA or placement rules, and give up your driveway for days. Then you're still the one carrying every load out to it.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The Star disposal rules most residents don't know

Paint, batteries, or other hazardous items mixed into a junk load are not accepted in the landfill, meaning another trip. Here is how Ada County sorts items from Star households.

Rule 01

Drain the gas and oil from mowers first

End-of-season lawn mowers, weed eaters, and tillers can be recycled at the Ada County Landfill diversion area. The county asks that gas and oil be drained, and fuel-powered equipment is kept in its own pile, separate from other scrap metal.

Rule 02

Console TVs and bulky electronics are accepted free

Console TVs and large electronics such as tabletop printers, scanners, over-the-range microwaves, and fax machines are accepted free at the Ada County Landfill electronic diversion area. TVs and electronics can be dropped off there any day, Monday through Saturday.

Rule 03

Holiday lights and extension cords get their own bin

When the Christmas lights come down after a Star winter, tangled strands and worn extension cords are diverted at the Ada County Landfill Recovery and Diversion Area. They go into a dedicated green metal bin instead of being buried with ordinary waste.

Rule 04

Swollen batteries skip the mobile collection sites

Ada County runs mobile household hazardous waste drop sites, but they do not accept swollen batteries. Those must go to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at the Ada County Landfill, where damaged batteries can be handled safely and kept out of general trash.

Rule 05

Fridges and freezers must arrive empty for refrigerant removal

Refrigerators, freezers, AC units, and wine coolers hold refrigerants like Freon, greenhouse gases that damage the ozone layer if released. Ada County Landfill technicians remove the refrigerant from empty units, and refrigerated appliances carry a $25 extra fee.

Rule 06

Leftover paint and cleaners may qualify for county reuse

The Ada County Landfill does not accept hazardous waste. At the county Household Hazardous Waste Facility, products still sold in stores that are at least half full and in their original container can go into the Material Reuse Program, where county residents take them free.

Generally no. Leaving junk at the curb or on a roadside outside your regular trash service can count as illegal dumping. Your regular garbage hauler's carts are for standard household trash only, so confirm bulky item rules with your provider before setting anything out.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Star starts at $80, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. The exact total is confirmed before booking.

Sometimes. Availability in Star depends on Loader schedules in the Treasure Valley and how early you book. Enter your address during booking to see open time slots. For curbside pickups you usually don't need to be home, and for indoor pickups someone should be there or leave access notes.

Hazardous items such as paint, chemicals, batteries, and propane tanks generally can't go in household trash or standard junk loads. Large items, construction debris, and yard waste may also fall outside regular service. Ada County's landfill or hazardous waste programs are the usual route for restricted materials.

Loaders aim to keep items out of the landfill whenever options allow. Usable furniture and household goods may be donated to local charities depending on acceptance, and recyclable materials are sorted for recycling when possible. What can't be donated or recycled is taken to an appropriate disposal facility.

You pick your items and a time window online, then see the price before you confirm. On pickup day, your Loader typically calls ahead before arriving, then removes the items from where you've pointed them out, whether that's the curb, garage, or inside your home.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King commonly price by truck space and may confirm the total on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For larger cleanouts, a truckload hauler may fit better.
