The Problem

Getting junk out of The Crossings shouldn't take weeks

You look up the county's rules, call a few haulers, wait on callbacks that never come, and compare quotes that don't line up. Meanwhile the garage stays full and another weekend goes by.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Miami-Dade County runs bulk trash pickup for unincorporated areas, but you have to request it ahead of time, follow limits on volume and item types, and drag everything to the curb yourself. Then the pile sits there until the scheduled day comes around.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Lots of haulers want to look at the job in person before they'll give you a number. Then they price by fractions of a truckload, so you won't know your real total until the work is done and nobody is left to argue with.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers only take items they can resell, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses, and broken furniture usually get turned away. Some offer pickup but book up far ahead, and you still need a plan for everything they won't take.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container takes up your driveway for days, and your HOA may have rules about how long it can stay. You also do all the lifting yourself, which is a lot of hassle for a spare bedroom or half a garage.

Local Disposal Rules

The The Crossings disposal rules most residents don't know

In The Crossings, a pile bigger than 25 cubic yards uses up part of a household's next bulky pickup. These Miami-Dade County rules cover what else counts against your pickups.

Rule 01

Curbside tire pickup stops at four per collection

A Miami-Dade bulky waste pickup takes up to four tires. None can be more than 48 inches across, which keeps oversized equipment tires out of curbside collection. You can't just add extra tires beyond that limit to the same pile.

Rule 02

Keep bulky piles clear of sprinkler heads and mailboxes

Put your pile within 10 feet of the street and at least five feet from mailboxes, parked cars, trees, utility poles and sprinkler heads. The county asks for this spacing because collection equipment can damage anything that sits too close.

Rule 03

Old wooden fencing has its own curbside limit

Tearing out a backyard fence? Miami-Dade County's bulky waste pickup only takes up to three cubic yards of wooden fence per collection. That limit applies even when the rest of your pile is well under the 25 cubic yard allowance. Anything over three cubic yards needs another way out.

Rule 04

Book the county pickup before anything touches the curb

The Crossings is unincorporated, so Miami-Dade County handles bulky pickup. You have to schedule online or through 311 before you put trash out. Households get two pickups a year of up to 25 cubic yards each. Duplex owners can combine four into one 100-cubic-yard pickup.

Rule 05

Kitchen and bathroom remodel debris is capped at three yards

Kitchen cabinets, bathtubs, sinks, vanities, drywall, tile, lumber and roofing material all count as construction and demolition debris. Curbside collection takes no more than three cubic yards of it. The county says that means a pile no bigger than six green 96-gallon waste carts.

Rule 06

Cut tree limbs to five feet before storm season

Miami-Dade bulky waste pickups only take tree cuttings five feet long or shorter. Trim before hurricane season, not during it. Once a storm watch or warning is issued, the county asks residents not to put yard debris out, because loose branches can turn into projectiles.

Only through a scheduled county pickup. The Crossings is unincorporated Miami-Dade, so Solid Waste Management handles bulky waste. Schedule online, through the MDC Solid Waste app, or by calling 311. Piles left out with no appointment can be cited as illegal dumping.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in The Crossings starts at $80, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Yes. Eligible single-family homes get two free bulky waste pickups per calendar year, up to 25 cubic yards each, and the cost is covered by the solid waste fee on your property tax bill. Two pickups can be combined into one 50-cubic-yard collection. Condos and buildings with private hauler contracts are usually not covered.

Same-day slots are sometimes open, depending on crew availability near The Crossings. Next-day booking is more dependable. Enter your zip code during booking to see live availability for your address, and add access notes if you won't be home for a curbside pickup.

Hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals, and asbestos are a problem for both curbside and hauler pickup. The county's bulky pickup also has volume limits and excludes some items. Household chemicals should go to a county Home Chemical Collection Center.

Loaders sort items on site and aim to donate usable pieces and recycle materials when local options allow. Acceptance depends on condition and on what charities and recyclers will take. Whatever can't be donated or recycled goes to an appropriate disposal facility.

Book online, choose your item and time window, and see the price before you confirm. Loaders arrive in your window and typically call ahead. They load the items and haul them away. You don't need to carry anything yourself, and curbside items can be left out with access notes.

The main differences are pricing and booking. Traditional haulers such as 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King usually price by truckload, often after an estimate. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total confirmed before booking. For large cleanouts, a truckload hauler can be a good fit.
