Convenience centers accept latex paint and used oil, up to five gallons of each per month, but pesticides, pool chemicals, gasoline, strippers, thinners and unknown chemicals must go to the household hazardous waste collection center at the Northwest Solid Waste Facility.
Curbside yard waste in unincorporated Hernando County is capped at 15 containers, bags or bundles per pickup, each under 50 pounds, with limbs no longer than 4 feet or thicker than 4 inches. Yard waste generated by landscapers is not collected.
Tires are excluded from the county's free residential drop-off allowance and from convenience centers. Hernando County has offered free disposal of up to eight rimless car tires per household during November to reduce mosquito breeding sites in unused tires.
