Junk has a way of piling up until it's one more thing on the list. Book a quick pickup with LoadUp, see your real price upfront, and get your Granby space back.
You check the town website, call about bulky waste, and request a few hauler quotes. One calls back, one wants to visit first, and one goes quiet. Meanwhile the junk is still sitting in the garage.
Granby's town programs can handle some bulky waste, but they come with rules. Permits, accepted-item lists, and set hours or dates decide what goes and when. Even when everything checks out, you may still be the one loading the truck and making the trip.
Many haulers want to see the load in person before they give you a number. Then the price depends on how much of the truck they think you filled. That leaves you agreeing to a cost you can't really check until the job is already done.
Donation centers want items they can resell, so scuffed furniture, stained upholstery, and worn appliances often get turned away. Many also won't pick up. You end up hauling things there yourself, and some of them come right back home with you.
A dumpster makes sense for a full gut renovation, not for clearing out one attic or shed. You have to book drop-off and pickup, find level ground for it, and look at a steel bin in the driveway for days while you do all the lifting.

Out here, the dump run is never a quick one, and the attic, barn, or garage full of a lifetime's stuff never fits in one pickup load. Your Loader carries it out, stacks it up, and hauls it away, because neighbors who already keep up with old New England houses deserve an open Saturday.
Big, bulky items are hard to move alone, and out in Salmon Brook many homes have more space than disposal options. Your Loader sorts each item by condition, so reuse comes first when possible.
Furniture and household goods in good, clean condition may be set aside for donation when possible. Your Loader carries them out separately, and acceptance depends on what local donation options allow at the time.
Items too worn to donate, like scrap metal or broken appliances, may be recycled where available. Your Loader loads them apart from general trash so recycling is an option when local programs allow.
Heavily damaged or contaminated bulky items, like soaked mattresses or rotted furniture, are hauled away for responsible disposal. Your Loader handles the lifting, so you skip the transfer station trip.
Attendants at Granby's Transfer Station can reject any load or adjust fees, so know these rules for Salmon Brook, part of Granby in Hartford County.
After a nor'easter or ice storm, brush brought to the Granby Transfer Station must be clean, no more than 6 inches round, and cut to 6 feet or shorter. Butt ends must face the same direction, and a fee applies.
Granby's Transfer Station takes electronics on Saturdays. Its list includes televisions, computer monitors, laptop computers, printers, hard drives and fluorescent bulbs. Connecticut's e-waste rules require every town to offer a convenient site that accepts televisions, monitors, computers and printers.
Granby handles household hazardous waste through Saturday morning collections it shares with Avon, Canton, Farmington, Simsbury and Suffield. The 2026 dates fall in April, June and October, and residents must bring proof of residency.
The Transfer Station takes metal goods such as stoves, washers and dryers for a fee, along with bicycles and lawnmowers. Residents who can't get bulky items or appliances there can schedule curbside pickup directly with USA Waste & Recycling.
Granby accepts small amounts of construction materials at the Transfer Station, but only with prior approval from the Department of Public Works. Large amounts of remodeling debris require a private contract, and Public Works keeps a list of contractors registered with the Town.
The Transfer Station takes water-based and oil paints, deck stains and shellacs during regular hours through the PaintCare Program. Paint must be in its original container with no rust, so paint moved into other containers or rusted cans won't be accepted.
