The Problem

Crested Butte gives you options, not an easy answer.

You start with a search, then a call to the town, then the county, then a couple of haulers. Two of them never call back. A few weekends go by and the junk hasn't moved.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Weekly collection is built for what fits in a bin with the lid closed, and wildlife rules mean that bin lives indoors the rest of the week. Mattresses, appliances and remodel debris were never part of it. Annual cleanup events help, if your timing happens to line up.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Call a hauler and the real answer waits until someone is standing in your driveway, eyeballing the pile and quoting by how much of the truck bed it fills. Up here that visit has to be scheduled around a drive, so you wait twice.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

If the couch has a tear or the mattress has a stain, the answer at the door is no. Small-town reuse outlets take what they can sell and what they have room for, and that changes season to season. You still handle the loading and the drive.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A container means a permit conversation if it sits in the right of way, a delivery window, and days of it parked on a narrow lot or in the alley where snow and neighbors already compete for room. For one room, that is a lot of logistics.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Proudly serving Crested Butte and the whole upper Gunnison Valley

There is no quick dump run here. Hauling a mattress means borrowing a trailer, hoping the alley got plowed, and losing most of a day to the drive. Nobody wants a couch sitting out overnight where the bears wander. Your Loaders take the stairs, the loading, and the miles, and they like showing up for folks here.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Where an item ends up matters in Crested Butte, since the nearest disposal sites sit down valley. Your Loaders sort each piece by condition, steering what they can toward reuse or recycling when local options allow.

Donation Pickup

If a couch or dresser is clean and structurally sound, it may go to a local reuse outlet when one is accepting that category. Need paperwork? Handle the drop-off yourself.

Visible Wear

Recycling

A torn mattress or dead appliance can still hold recyclable metal, and Colorado law keeps televisions and computers out of landfills entirely, so those head to a recycler where one is available.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Water-damaged sectionals, soaked carpet, and broken deck boards have no second life. Your Loaders carry them out and move them toward permitted disposal, typically a transfer station or landfill that accepts that material.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

The Crested Butte disposal rules most residents don't know

Unsecured trash invites bears and enforcement, and the wrong load gets turned away at the gate. Here is what Crested Butte and Gunnison County actually require.

Rule 01

Trash must stay wildlife resistant or stored indoors

Crested Butte enforces rules on trash storage and curbside placement at both homes and businesses. On non-pickup days, carts belong inside a garage or building, because garbage that bears can reach teaches them to come back.

Rule 02

Curbside carts are capped and priced by volume

Residents may set out up to three 35-gallon cans per week, and the town's Save-As-You-Throw program links what a household pays to the bin size it keeps. Oversized furniture, appliances, and remodel debris sit outside that weekly service.

Rule 03

Loose yard waste left at the curb stays there

The town does not collect yard debris placed outside a cart or in the right of way. Branches and clippings either go inside the cart or get hauled to the Crested Butte transfer station or the Gunnison County Landfill, where fees apply.

Rule 04

Colorado bans electronics from landfill disposal statewide

Since July 2013, the Electronic Recycling Jobs Act has made it unlawful to landfill televisions, monitors, computers, printers, and similar devices anywhere in Colorado. Landfills and haulers must refuse them, so covered electronics need a legitimate recycler instead.

Rule 05

Fridges and freezers carry a refrigerant handling requirement

Federal rules require certified recovery of refrigerant from refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners before they are scrapped or buried, and the Gunnison County Landfill charges a higher per item fee for Freon containing appliances than for ordinary ones.

Rule 06

Construction debris is weighed and sorted at the landfill

The Gunnison County Landfill prices clean wood, concrete, and ground construction debris separately by the ton and charges more for loose, uncompacted loads. It also will not take asbestos or tires originating outside Gunnison and Hinsdale counties.

Waste Management runs weekly trash and a bulk item pickup, but items left beside your cart as excess will not be collected. Bundled bulk pieces are generally capped around 25 pounds each, so anything larger needs a scheduled haul or a drive out to the Gunnison County Landfill yourself.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Crested Butte starts at $75, and leaving items at the curb or driveway takes $5 off. The first item covers the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on, with your full total confirmed before you book. Self-hauling to the Gunnison County Landfill runs a $16 minimum, loose waste at $87 per ton.

Yes, same-day or next-day pickup is usually open in the Crested Butte area when you book before noon. Mountain weather and the town's distance can affect timing, so enter your address during booking to see live availability for your slot.

Large and restricted items carry extra fees at the Gunnison County Landfill. Mattresses and box springs run a $33 handling fee plus scale weight, appliances are $17, and anything with Freon is $33 and must have the refrigerant removed first. Loaders can take these so you skip the sorting and the drive out to the landfill.

Loaders try to keep usable junk out of the landfill whenever possible. Items in good shape are routed toward donation, metal and accepted materials head to the Gunnison County Recycling Center on Basin Park Drive, and Sustainable CB holds electronics collection days. Whatever cannot be reused goes to the Gunnison County Landfill as a last step.

You book online or by phone with an upfront price locked before pickup day. On the scheduled day your Loaders call roughly 30 minutes ahead, confirm the junk being removed, then do the lifting, loading, and hauling. You do not need to drag anything to the curb yourself for an in-home pickup.

The difference is the pricing model and booking flow. Traditional haulers and brands like 1-800-GOT-JUNK charge by truckload and usually quote after an in-person look, so your price is not set until the truck arrives. LoadUp prices per item online and locks the total before anyone shows up.
