The Problem

Sacramento has options for junk. Few actually fit.

You search, call the city, then learn your street might fall under the county instead. You request hauler quotes, two never call back, one wants to visit first. Weeks later, the pile still owns the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

The city's bulky pickup runs by appointment, so you request a date and then wait for it. You drag everything to the curb yourself, volume limits apply, and items like paint or batteries stay behind. Move-out deadlines rarely line up.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Plenty of haulers want to see the job in person before quoting, which means blocking off time for an estimate. Then pricing comes down to a fraction of a truckload, judged by eye, so the number you heard can shift once loading starts.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities have to resell what they accept, so stained upholstery, worn mattresses and wobbly furniture often get turned away. Most also expect you to drop items off, which puts you right back to needing a truck and a second set of hands.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off can take over your driveway for days, and parking one on the street may require a permit. On older blocks with tight lots and shared curb space, neighbors notice. You still do all the lifting, into a box sized well beyond one room.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Pickup Options

Set it at the curb or leave it where it sits

If your items are already out on a wide driveway or in an open garage, like in many newer subdivisions on the city's north side, curbside is the simpler choice. Pick full-service when a sofa or dresser is still inside an upstairs apartment or behind the tight doorways of an older home, and your Loaders will carry it out from where it sits.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Sacramento, on both sides of Highway 50 and the I-5 corridor

Anyone who has wrestled a sofa into a borrowed pickup on a Sacramento July afternoon knows the Valley heat gets a vote. A quick dump run turns into a sweaty ordeal fast. Your Loaders do the lifting and loading while you stay in the shade, and they genuinely enjoy showing up for this town.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

A couch with a sagging frame and a dresser that still works need different endings, and Sacramento cleanouts usually involve both. Your Loader sorts by condition, aiming to keep usable items out of landfills when possible.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

Furniture, housewares and other items in clean, usable shape may be donated when possible. Your Loader sets them aside for reuse where local options allow. No donation receipt is guaranteed.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Visible Wear

Recycling

Items too worn to donate, like scrapped metal frames, cardboard or old electronics, may be recycled where available. Your Loader separates them during loading, and options vary across Sacramento-area programs.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Soaked mattresses, broken sectionals and heavily damaged bulky items go to responsible disposal. Your Loader carries them out and loads them for a Sacramento-area landfill or transfer station, since reuse is not realistic.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Sacramento disposal rules most residents don't know

Setting appliances curbside more than a day early can draw a fine, and some materials are refused outright. Here is how disposal works in Sacramento and Sacramento County.

Rule 01

Old fence posts and decking count as hazardous waste

Since January 1, 2021, the City of Sacramento has considered treated wood hazardous waste, so it is excluded from household junk pickup. That covers fence posts, sill plates, decking, patio posts, railroad ties, and landscape timbers, which require separate treated wood disposal.

Rule 02

Winter leaf piles in the street need a curb and gutter

From November through January, City customers on public streets with curb and gutter can pile extra yard waste loose in the street for the claw tractor. Fill the organics container first, and keep limbs at most three feet long and four inches thick.

Rule 03

California caps how much hazardous waste you can haul at once

State law prohibits transporting more than 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous materials at once. Paint, paint thinners, and pesticides can be dropped off free at City and Sacramento County HHW facilities, but the City site does not accept asbestos or ammunition.

Rule 04

Appliances and electronics need their own separate pickup appointment

Appliances and e-waste cannot go in a household junk pile. City customers get two free appliance and electronics appointments each year, available year-round, and setting items out more than 24 hours early may result in a fine.

Rule 05

Hot-weather fire risk keeps batteries out of every cart

Sacramento does not allow batteries in garbage or recycle containers and treats them as household hazardous waste. Curbside battery pickup has ended, but drop-off is free at HHW facilities. The City notes that hazardous items can start fires in trucks and sorting facilities.

Rule 06

Free household junk pickup pauses from November through January

City of Sacramento customers get two free household junk appointments per year, offered only February through October and booked through Sac311. Piles should stay within 9 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 4 feet tall. Outside that window, a paid special pickup applies.

Not without an arranged pickup. Items put out on the street or sidewalk without a scheduled collection can be treated as illegal dumping and may bring a fine. Check with the City of Sacramento's solid waste office or 311 for current collection rules and limits.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Sacramento starts at $75, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on charge, and the exact total is confirmed before booking. Traditional haulers often price by truckload.

Same-day slots are sometimes open, depending on Loader availability in your area. Enter your address during booking to see live times for Midtown, Land Park, Natomas, the Pocket and elsewhere. Next-day and later dates are usually easier to get.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups. Leave the items outside with any access notes. For items inside your home, someone should be there, or you can leave entry instructions when booking. Your Loader typically gives notice before arriving.

Hazardous items like paint, batteries, solvents, and pesticides are banned from curbside bins in California and need a household hazardous waste drop-off. Bulky items usually need a special collection. Check Sacramento County's waste guidelines before putting anything out.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill when options allow. Furniture and household goods may go to local donation partners, depending on acceptance, and recyclable materials are sorted when possible. Whatever can't be donated or recycled goes to an appropriate disposal facility.

You book online, describe your items, and see the total before confirming. On pickup day your Loader arrives in the chosen window, loads everything, and takes it away. You don't need to haul anything yourself, and the price is set before anyone arrives.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King commonly price by truckload and may confirm a quote on site. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total confirmed before booking. For large cleanouts, a truckload hauler can still be a good fit.
