The Problem

So many ways to ditch junk in Los Angeles, none easy

You search online, call the city's service line, and request a few hauler quotes. Some never call back, and others want to visit first. Weeks later, the junk still sits right where you left it.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

City bulk pickup programs are a solid option if you live within city limits and can wait. You request a date, haul everything to the curb yourself, and work around item limits. If you rent in a building with no curb access, it gets tricky.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many local haulers want to see the pile in person before quoting, then price by how much of the truck you fill. The number you hear on the phone can change once the crew arrives, so you rarely know the real total upfront.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities screen for condition, and stained upholstery, worn mattresses, or broken pieces usually get turned away. Even when they accept items, many expect you to drop them off, which means borrowing a truck and lifting everything yourself.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container makes sense for a full remodel, not a single room. Placing one on the street may require a permit, it can block a neighbor's parking for days, and you still have to carry and load every item into it yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Los Angeles, from the Valley to the Harbor

Driving a worn-out sofa to a drop-off site on the 405 at 4 p.m. is a special kind of Los Angeles ordeal, and a ten-mile trip can eat an afternoon. Your Loader handles the lifting, carrying, and loading instead, and we like showing up for the people who keep this city moving.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Los Angeles spreads across a huge basin, and what happens to a couch, mattress, or pile of debris after pickup depends on its condition. Your Loader sorts items by state, so usable pieces can stay in circulation where available.

Donation Pickup

Furniture and household goods in good, clean condition may be set aside for donation, where available. Your Loader can separate these pieces during loading, though the outcome depends on local options and the independent contractor handling the job.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

  • Compliant with local waste regs

  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end

Local Disposal Rules

The Los Angeles disposal rules most residents don't know

A single load of remodel debris sent to the wrong facility can draw a penalty, so these are the disposal rules that apply in Los Angeles within Los Angeles County.

Rule 01

Moving boxes need a Move In/Move Out request

Cardboard is on LASAN's prohibited list for standard bulky item pickup. The exception is a scheduled Move In/Move Out service. Without that request, a garage full of boxes left beside the bins will not be collected as bulky items.

Rule 02

Remodel debris must reach a City-certified processing facility

Mixed construction and demolition waste generated in Los Angeles must be transported under a LASAN private waste hauler permit to a City-certified processor. LASAN assesses penalties of up to $5,000 for every load that skips a certified facility.

Rule 03

Clean untreated wood scraps can ride in the green bin

LA's green bin accepts tree and bush trimmings and clean, untreated wood along with food scraps. OrganicsLA turns that material into compost for California farmers. This keeps it out of landfills, where buried organics release methane.

Rule 04

Brush clearance debris has to leave the property legally

LAFD begins its 2026 defensible space inspections on May 1, and all cut vegetation must be removed legally. Chipping is the workaround. Chips may be spread back up to three inches deep within 30 feet of structures and six inches beyond.

Rule 05

Leftover pool chemicals belong at a S.A.F.E. Center

Chemicals are barred from LA curbside collection, and that includes the pool chemicals many households stockpile through long summers. S.A.F.E. Centers take pool chemicals free for City residents, along with leftover paint, used motor oil, and batteries.

Rule 06

Bulky item pickup is free and unlimited with notice

LASAN collects furniture, mattresses and box springs, toilets and sinks, and rolled, tied carpet on your regular trash day at no added charge. Requests through MyLA311 must arrive at least one business day before your normal collection.

Not without a scheduled pickup. In the City of Los Angeles it's illegal to leave sofas, mattresses and other large items curbside unannounced. Book a free bulky item pickup through MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489 at least one business day before trash day.

The city's enforcement program has fined dumping violations $250 to $500 for a first offense, $500 to $750 for a second, and $1,000 for a third or later. Leaving junk out without a scheduled LASAN pickup can fall under these rules.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Los Angeles starts at $75 for one item, and curbside pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee and each additional item is a flat add-on, with your exact total confirmed before booking. Truckload haulers in LA average roughly $305.

Same-day slots are sometimes open, depending on your zip code and how busy the day is. Enter your address at booking to see live availability. For curbside pickups you don't need to be home, but for in-home pickups someone should be there or leave access instructions.

LA residents can drop off household hazardous waste for free at LASAN S.A.F.E. Centers and one-day mobile collection events. Accepted items include paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, aerosols and fluorescent bulbs. These items generally can't go in regular bulky item pickups.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill. Whenever options allow, furniture and household goods go to local donation partners, and recyclable materials go to recyclers. Acceptance varies, so anything that can't be donated or recycled is disposed of at the appropriate facility.

For many households it is. The free city pickup works well if you can wait for a scheduled date and put items at the curb. A paid service makes more sense when you need faster timing, help carrying items from inside, or items LASAN's curbside program doesn't take.

The main difference is the pricing model. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King typically price by truck volume and confirm the total on site. LoadUp prices per item online, with the total confirmed before booking, which can suit small jobs. Large cleanouts may favor truckload pricing.
