The Problem

Clearing out a foothill property is harder than it looks

You look up town pickup rules, leave a voicemail or two, and request hauler quotes that never come back. A few weekends slip by, and the junk is still sitting in the garage.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Municipal pickup schedules can be a real help, but they usually come with item limits, advance requests, and rules about what qualifies. Everything still has to reach the pickup point, which is no small task at the end of a long, sloped driveway.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to send someone out for an in-person estimate before they'll name a price, then quote by fractions of a truckload. You won't really know the total until the truck is loaded, and by then saying no is awkward.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers have to be careful about condition, so worn upholstery, older electronics, and anything with stains or damage often gets turned away. You still have to load and drive it there yourself, then figure out what to do with whatever they decline.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off container brings delivery windows, possible permit questions, and a large metal box parked in view of the neighbors for days. On a tight or hillside lot, finding a flat spot for it can be harder than the cleanout. And you still do all the lifting.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Local Disposal Rules

The Los Altos Hills disposal rules most residents don't know

Bringing the wrong materials to a Town drop-off event can get your load turned away. These rules apply to cleanouts in Los Altos Hills and Santa Clara County.

Rule 01

Town Clean Up Day requires the mailed postcard and proof of residency

The Town Clean Up Day at Foothill College is only for Los Altos Hills residents. You must bring proof of residency and the original GreenWaste postcard. Enclosed trailers and trailers bigger than 4 by 8 feet are not allowed.

Rule 02

Monthly fire prevention events take unlimited brush and limbs

Los Altos Hills is hilly and prone to wildfire. On the third Saturday of each month, the Town and GreenWaste hold Fire Prevention events. Residents can drop off unlimited pruned limbs, brush, and branches at no extra cost.

Rule 03

Pressure-treated lumber is not accepted at Town drop-off events

Clean Up Day accepts untreated wood waste only in pieces less than 6 inches across and less than 5 feet long. Pressure-treated wood is on the list of materials it won't take. California also has special handling rules for treated wood waste.

Rule 04

An appliance with Freon uses up a whole free collection

Each household gets two free On-Call Clean-ups a year through GreenWaste, and each one covers two bulky items. An appliance with Freon counts as two bulky items, so an old refrigerator uses a whole free pickup. Extra pickups cost a fee.

Rule 05

Hazardous waste goes to the county program, not any cart

GreenWaste says household hazardous waste does not belong in any of its carts. Clean Up Day also refuses fluorescent light bulbs, liquids, and fuel cans. These materials go to Santa Clara County's household hazardous waste program instead.

Rule 06

Construction debris is limited to 30 gallons per Clean Up Day

Clean Up Day accepts rock, dirt, asphalt, concrete, and other construction and demolition debris, up to 30 gallons total per event. It must be in containers. Any amount over 30 gallons is listed as unacceptable, so bigger remodel loads need another way out.

Not unless it is part of a scheduled pickup. Debris left out on public roadside or trail edges can be treated as illegal dumping and reported to the Town's code enforcement. Ask your Town-franchised garbage hauler about bulky item pickup rules before setting anything out.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Los Altos Hills starts at $75, and curbside or driveway pickup takes $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, and each additional item is a flat add-on charge. Your exact total is confirmed before booking.

Often, depending on Loader availability near you. Enter your address at booking to see the live same-day and next-day slots for Los Altos Hills. Booking earlier in the day generally gives more options.

Not for curbside or driveway pickups, since items can be left out with access notes. For in-home pickups, someone should be there or you can share gate and access instructions at booking. Long driveways and gated properties are common here, so note them.

Hazardous items like paint, solvents, pesticides, and batteries are the usual restriction. Santa Clara County's Household Hazardous Waste Program takes them at its San Jose and San Martin facilities or at temporary events, and appointments are required for drop-off.

Loaders aim to donate usable items to local charities whenever options allow. Anything that can't be donated is recycled where possible, and only what's left goes to a disposal facility. Acceptance varies by item and condition, so outcomes are not guaranteed.

You pick your items and a time window online, and the price is shown before you confirm. On pickup day your Loader arrives in that window, removes the items, and cleans up the spot. Curbside pickups don't require you to be present.

The pricing model. Traditional haulers like College HUNKS and 1-800-GOT-JUNK typically start with a free estimate and charge by truckload volume. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking, which suits smaller jobs. For full cleanouts, a truckload quote may fit better.
