Homes and complexes under five units can book three free bulky pickups a year, up to five items each, by 3:30 p.m. the day before trash day. Larger apartment and condo properties get one bulky item per unit annually, booked by the owner or manager.
Common batteries, including button batteries like hearing aid batteries, plus fluorescent tubes, mercury thermostats and non-empty aerosol cans labeled toxic or flammable are classed as universal waste. None may be set out curbside or tossed in any solid waste container.
EDCO's universal waste list puts televisions, computer monitors, printers, cell phones, radios and microwave ovens off-limits for carts. A bulky pickup may include one television or computer monitor, and the Poway, Vista and Escondido hazardous waste facilities accept all electronic waste.
