The Problem

Getting rid of junk in Chico takes more than it should

You look up the rules, call to ask about pickup, and request a few hauler quotes. One calls back, one wants to come look first, one never answers. Weeks go by and the junk is still sitting there.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

City bulk pickup programs can work if you plan ahead. You request a date, wait for an opening, and drag everything to the curb yourself. Some items, like appliances with refrigerants or electronics, may not qualify, and the next opening doesn't always line up with your move-out date.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to look at the pile in person before they'll give you a number. Then the quote comes as a fraction of a truckload, which is hard to picture ahead of time. You might not know the final price until everything is already loaded.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Thrift stores and charities need things they can resell, so a stained recliner or a dresser missing a drawer often gets turned away. Even items they do take usually have to be dropped off by you, and you still need somewhere for the rest to go.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A roll-off sits on your driveway for days, takes up parking, and may need a permit if it ends up on the street. You still do all the lifting yourself. For one garage corner or a spare bedroom, that's a lot of steel for a small job.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Set it at the curb or leave it where it sits

If the old patio set or a pile of pruned branches is already out on the driveway, which is easy with the wide front drives in many of Chico's newer subdivisions, curbside (outdoor) pickup is the natural fit. For a refrigerator in an upstairs apartment or a dresser in the back bedroom of an older bungalow, choose full-service and your Loaders will carry it out from inside.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Chico, from Bidwell Park to Highway 99

Chico afternoons love to climb past 100 degrees, which makes wrestling a dresser or a rusted water heater into a borrowed truck a lousy way to spend a weekend. Your Loader does the lifting and loading while you stay in the shade, and they genuinely like showing up for the people who call this town home.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Most of what leaves a Chico home is bulky, mixed in condition, and not worth a dump run. Your Loader sorts each item by what shape it's in, so reuse comes first when possible and disposal covers the rest.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

Furniture, appliances, and household goods that are clean and still working may be set aside for donation when possible. Donation depends on local options and condition, and no receipt is promised.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor

Visible Wear

Recycling

Items that are worn or damaged but still have usable materials, like metal frames, old appliances, or electronics, may be recycled where available. Your Loader separates them from the general pile.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Heavily damaged, soiled, or contaminated bulky items, such as a water-ruined mattress or a broken sectional, go to disposal. Your Loader handles the lifting and hauling out of Chico, so you skip the dump run.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Chico disposal rules most residents don't know

Getting these wrong can mean overage charges on your bill or a municipal code violation, so here is what applies to cleanouts in Chico and Butte County.

Rule 01

Leaf piles in the street are seasonal and leaves only

Chico's leaf collection runs November through January to keep leaves out of storm drains and creeks. Piles must hold only leaves, with no branches, grass or bags. Once January's final pass reaches your street, no more leaves may go out.

Rule 02

Refrigerators carry a Freon surcharge on curbside bulky pickups

Chico's rate schedule adds a per-item charge for bulky items containing Freon, on top of the bulky collection. Recology requires refrigerator doors removed before set-out, and Butte County sends appliances to the Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility, not its hazardous waste facility.

Rule 03

Concrete and remodel debris are excluded from curbside bulky pickup

Construction debris is excluded from Waste Management's Chico bulky pickups. Recology's Chico list rules out dirt, rock, concrete, asphalt and anything needing special loading equipment. Butte County's Neal Road facility handles larger quantities of nonhazardous material.

Rule 04

Tube televisions belong at the regional hazardous waste facility

Butte County classifies computer monitors, televisions and other items containing cathode ray tubes as e-waste, and electronics are illegal to put in the garbage. The Butte Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility takes them free from county households showing proof of residency.

Rule 05

Overstuffed garbage carts trigger overage charges after repeated notices

Chico cart lids must close, and the city's rate schedule allows a per-lift overage charge once a second notice has been issued. Single-family accounts can keep up to two recycling and two organics carts at no additional charge, giving cleanout recyclables and yard trimmings room.

Rule 06

Pool chemicals and paint are free to drop, within limits

Butte County households can bring pool chemicals, latex and oil based paint, pesticides and solvents to the regional hazardous waste facility free, in household quantities up to 50 pounds, with proof of residency. Smoke detectors and ammunition are not accepted there.

Not unless it is part of a scheduled pickup from your hauler. Piles left on streets or sidewalks without an arranged collection can be treated as illegal dumping and fined. Ask your trash provider about bulky item rules and limits before setting anything out.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Chico starts at $75 for a single item, and curbside or driveway pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on charge, and the exact total is confirmed before booking. Traditional haulers usually price by truckload.

Same-day slots are sometimes available depending on the schedule, and next-day is more common. Enter your Chico address during booking to see live availability. For curbside pickups you don't need to be home. For in-home pickups, someone should be present or leave access instructions.

Hazardous items like paint, solvents, pesticides, batteries, and fluids generally can't go in curbside bins and need a household hazardous waste drop-off. Large or oversized items may also exceed what regular service takes. Check with your trash provider or Butte County before disposing of anything restricted.

Loaders aim to keep usable items out of the landfill. Whenever possible, they take furniture and household goods to local donation partners, and they try to recycle materials such as metal and cardboard. What can't be donated or recycled goes to the appropriate disposal facility, depending on acceptance.

You choose your items online, enter your Chico address, and pick a pickup window, with the total shown before you confirm. On pickup day, your Loader gives you a heads-up before arriving, then removes the items and hauls them away. You don't need to sort or carry anything.

The main differences are pricing model and booking flow. Traditional haulers often charge by truckload and may confirm the price on site. LoadUp prices per item online and confirms the total before booking. For a few items that is often cheaper, while a full-house cleanout may suit a truckload hauler.
