The Problem

Plenty of ways to ditch junk out here, none easy

You look up county rules, call your trash hauler, and request a few quotes. One company never calls back, another can't give a firm date. Weeks go by, and the pile in the barn is still there.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

Caliente has no city program of its own, so any bulky pickup goes through county-level or hauler-provided services, and what's offered can change from one address to the next. Item limits, booking steps, and long waits often leave a full cleanout only partly done.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

Many haulers want to come out and look before they give you a number, and that visit can take days to set up this far out. Then the price depends on how much of the truck your load fills, so you don't know the real cost until loading starts.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Donation centers need things they can resell, so a chipped dresser, a stained recliner, or a rusted patio set will probably get turned away. They also don't pick up scrap lumber, broken fencing, or old appliances, and the closest drop-off can be a long drive from the foothills.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

A rented dumpster means booking delivery and pickup, finding a level spot your driveway can handle, and loading every heavy piece yourself. Then it sits on your property for days. For clearing out one shed or a single room, that's more container and more work than the job needs.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

Serving Caliente from the creek bed to the Tehachapi foothills

Out here, a dump run is never just a dump run. It's a loaded truck bed, a winding road, and half your Saturday gone before you're back through your own gate. Your Loaders handle the lifting and loading, barn to driveway, and they like showing up for Caliente neighbors.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

Out past the edge of town, the question after a cleanout is where everything ends up. In Caliente, your Loader sorts items by condition, aiming to keep usable pieces in circulation and send only what's left to disposal.

Local Disposal Rules

The Caliente disposal rules most residents don't know

Bring the wrong load to the wrong Kern County site and you can be turned away at the gate. These rules apply to Caliente residents across unincorporated Kern County.

Rule 01

Cool wood stove ashes completely before they leave the property

Hot ashes are on Kern County's list of materials that no county landfill or transfer station will accept. Liquids of any kind are on that list too. In a mountain community where many homes heat with wood stoves, ashes need to be fully cold before they go anywhere.

Rule 02

Old ranch fencing and railroad ties need a lined landfill

Kern County classifies fencing, railroad ties and telephone pole type materials as treated wood waste. Only the lined landfills at Bena, Shafter-Wasco and Taft are allowed to accept it, and the county requires you to contact Public Works before delivering it.

Rule 03

Televisions and computer monitors are banned from household trash

California treats TVs, computer monitors and other devices with a screen as waste that cannot go in household trash. The Tehachapi Transfer Station takes them from residents at no charge. The nearby Keene site accepts no electronic waste at all.

Rule 04

Concrete and dirt can no longer go to Tehachapi

The Tehachapi landfill switched to a temporary transfer station in February 2026 as it neared capacity. It no longer takes concrete, dirt, trailers over 12 feet, or loads over 10 cubic yards. Those now go to Bena or Mojave-Rosamond.

Rule 05

Brush cleared for defensible space must arrive sorted

State law requires 100 feet of defensible space around homes in fire-prone areas like the Caliente foothills. Residents can self-haul tree limbs and branches without a gate fee. Under SB 1383, loads must arrive separated by material or be sorted while unloading.

Rule 06

Your Land Use Fee already covers furniture and appliance drop-off

Kern County pays for resident disposal through the Land Use Fee charged to property owners. That means you pay no gate fee at county landfills and transfer stations when you haul your own furniture, mattresses, clothing, or stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers.

Not as a way to dump it. Items left out without a scheduled pickup can count as illegal dumping under Kern County rules. Kern's free curbside bulky pickup covers unincorporated metro Bakersfield, so rural Caliente may not qualify. Confirm with Kern Public Works first.

LoadUp pricing for junk removal in Caliente starts at $75, and curbside or outdoor pickup takes a flat $5 off. The first item includes the base pickup fee, each additional item is a flat add-on charge, and the exact total is confirmed before booking.

Often, yes. Same-day or next-day pickup is offered when you book before 12pm, depending on Loader availability for your address. Enter your address at booking to see open times for Caliente and nearby areas like Bealville, Keene and Marcel.

Not for curbside or outdoor pickups. You can leave items out and add access notes at booking. For items inside a home or barn, someone should be present or you can leave clear access instructions. Your Loader gives notice before arriving.

Kern County Public Works Solid Waste runs the landfills and transfer stations that serve rural areas, and it holds household hazardous waste events. Paint, chemicals and batteries should never go in a junk load. Check current gate fees and hours with the county before hauling it yourself.

Loaders try to keep usable items out of the landfill. Depending on acceptance, good furniture and household goods may go to donation partners, and metal, cardboard and electronics may be recycled whenever options allow. Whatever can't be reused or recycled goes to a proper disposal facility.

You choose your items online, see the price, and pick a pickup window. A Loader typically calls or texts before arriving, then loads the items and takes them away. Because pricing is per item and confirmed upfront, the total doesn't change when the Loader shows up.

The main differences are the pricing model and the booking flow. Traditional haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King usually price by truckload and often confirm the final cost on site. LoadUp prices per item online and locks the total before the pickup, which suits small jobs. For a full-house cleanout, a truckload quote can make more sense.
